A 40-inch TV should come with 4K resolution, but you'll be able to see the benefits more clearly on a larger size. We find that a 40-inch TV is a pretty decent size for a single viewer not sitting too far away, but for a family or group of flatmates it's not ideal. Operating system: 40-inch, 42-inch and 43-inch TVs didn't always come with a smart TV operating system in the past but they often do now. What you're looking for, ideally, is a well-maintained operating system like Roku TV, LG's webOS or Samsung's Tizen operating system. If you go with a TV that uses a proprietary operating system (basically an operating system exclusive to that one TV) you might have some serious issues down the road. For ease, we've included 40-inch TVs as well as the best 42-inch TVs and 43-inch TVs in this guide. Note that the Q60C is basically the same as its predecessor, the Samsung Q60/Q60B QLED, so get the cheapest one when shopping.

If you want something cheaper than the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED without sacrificing too much, the Sony KD-43X85K is the best 43-inch TV in the mid-range category. While its picture quality isn't nearly as good as the Samsung or the LG C3 OLED, it has many of the same gaming features, like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two of its ports. This is great if you want to take full advantage of the PS5, Xbox Series X, or a beefy PC gaming rig, as it supports 4k @ 120Hz. Sony TVs are also known to have good processing features, and this one is no exception, as the accuracy before calibration is fantastic, and upscaled content looks great. However, it tends to be sensible to have smaller TVs in smaller rooms, and larger ones in the biggest rooms. The Sony A90K OLED is a great OLED TV with Sony's well-known excellent image processing feature. However, the LG C3 OLED is the better choice with its better gaming features, higher peak brightness, and pretty good image processing features.

This reduces the clutter of having audio cables trailing from the TV and other devices to the soundbar.
