About this deal

I was so wow’d by their Secale Straight Rye whiskey while I was there, I knew I had to make a summer whiskey drink to share with you all. Cherries are one of those ingredients I look forward to working with all year long (kind of like cranberries in the winter or various pumpkins and squashes in the fall). Amaretto– I use Disaronno whenever I use amaretto as it doesn’t completely break the bank and tastes good. Amaretto can be found at any liquor store. Fresh cherries – You can use frozen pitted cherries if cherries are not in season for you. Also, Luxardo jarred cherries work well here too, but they are expensive. I would not use the bright red, cheap maraschino cherries. This springtime classic brings plenty of Eastern flair to the party. To make two Cherry Blossom drinks, combine 45ml sake, 30ml cherry liqueur, 15ml Bulldog Gin , 10ml Grand Marnier , 10ml grenadine, and 10ml lemon juice in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until thoroughly chilled, and strain into two chilled glasses. Garnish with fresh or brandied cherries.

The finished product is much different than something like cassis, which includes sugar. It's hard to describe, but it tastes eerily like the good part of cherry cough syrup I remember having as a kid. Some are even quite delicious. If you want to experience new and exciting flavors, it's worth it to keep an open mind. After all, there was a time not long ago when people thought the only good single malts came from Scotland. Many seasoned whiskey drinkers turn their noses to the sky at the mere mention of "flavored whiskey"—and it's easy to see why. simple syrup– you can buy this at your local store (liquor or grocery!), but I just make it at home. All you need are equal parts water and sugar.
