About this deal

Not only is the writing of a quality that reminded me vaguely of Shirley Jackson (I think it was the baroque dialogue where every line has multiple meanings and interpretations combined with the darkly humorous nature of the text), who is my all time favorite author, but the book was downright scary! I have always felt that just because one aspect of someone’s life was deemed distasteful—for real or imagined reasons—by the masses, that the idea that would cancel out all of the good works of that person’s life is an incredible waste.

I first heard of Michael McDowell almost three years ago, when I started reading Stephen King, and began looking for similar authors. While reading the book my Goodreads buddy Corey Woodcock pointed out that two of the characters in the story were prototypes for ones used in Beetlejuice. It doesn't matter if you're into Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Jack Ketchum or Shirley Jackson, this is the place to share that love and discuss to your heart's content.
