I really needed to read this palate cleanser after some of the heavier books I've been reading lately. This is a rom-com that is rom for maybe 40%, and very little com…although I smiled once or twice. It’s completely unrealistic, and the ending had my eyes rolling as if on loop. Yet, I did enjoy reading it. I really liked the character of Nora and found her to be very fleshed out. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that this has cheese written all over it. Nora could’ve written the story for one of her TRC movies. Did she? I loved the budding relationship between Nora and Leo. Witty banter and snark gets me every time. Nora’s children are adorable, but in a realistic way. Sure, there’s a misunderstanding that a simple conversation would have solved, but what would be the fun in that? Were some things unrealistic? Of course, but who cares?I absolutely love Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan. I love Nora. I love her voice. I love the romance. I love the pacing. I love that she’s a mum. Nora hesitates but could use the rent money. I did enjoy the ‘twist’ as I didn’t see it coming, but the trope is very common in these kids of books and definitely not original. I appreciated the centrality of Nora’s role as mom as she navigates falling in love. She’s self aware and snarky as we see her trying to sneak around and find time with Leo, without letting her kids know. It added to the swooniness of their romance, and I felt like the book encouraged me to open up and learn to trust Leo, just as Nora was. I couldn’t put the book down during the first half.
