About this deal

Delay start – allows you to plan a piping hot meal after a busy day at work. Just set the start time for up to 9 hours ahead, and choose the Micro Power level that’s right for your recipe. The microwave itself is pretty good, but that's irrelevant if the units keep developing faults and the manufacturer just doesn't care about this, or you, they consumer. I wont buy a Panasonic product again simply because of this. At the first glance, the NN-CS89LBBPQ appears to be more of a convection oven: its door opens downwards and there’s no turntable inside. Instead, you get various trays, which can be positioned at three different heights, or left at the bottom of the oven. The microwave features a 1000W microwave cooking power output, with Panasonic's inverter technology offering graduated levels of power - perfect for ensuring food is cooked evenly throughout.

Two features differentiate it from more affordable combis such as the Panasonic NN-DF386. The first is that it offers steam cooking – as an oven, but also in combination with the microwave or quartz grill. This can reduce cooking times as well as keeping food moist. Panacrunch button – The dedicated Panacrunch option combines the traditional grill with microwaves to warm the ridged Panacrunch tray so it’ll brown and crisp pizzas, frozen foods and breaded items while they cook. If accessing the Panacrunch feature via the dedicated button, remember to tell it the weight of your food, so the oven can select the best cooking time for your dish. The NN-CS89LBBPQ impressed with its auto programmes and grill setting, while some tasks using its regular microwave and convection functions delivered somewhat uneven results, requiring a longer cooking time. Oven – just like a traditional oven, this option warms the oven cavity from the top and bottom simultaneously, and requires pre-heating before you roast or bake your ingredients. You can use the Panacrunch tray as a shelf or shallow oven tray – it’s ideal for roasting meats as the ridges in the tray allow excess fat to drain away from the joint, and you can add an extra shelf if you wish to cook on two levels at once. Temperature options range from 150-220°C in ten-degree increments – but there is a super-low setting for proving yeasted doughs – and a safety cut-off will switch the oven off if you haven’t placed anything inside within 30 minutes of switching it on.

The product itself is pretty good. It's when there is a fault or an issue with it that you really realise what you've bought: non existent customer service from Panasonic. The Panasonic NN-DS59NB is a microwave oven that offers a range of cooking options to suit most needs. It features a convection function for even cooking, which combines the speed of a microwave with the browning and crisping ability of a traditional oven. With its 27-liter capacity, it can accommodate larger dishes and meals, making it ideal for families or those who like to entertain guests. The microwave also features a 1200W grill cooking function - helping to ensure that your foods can be browned on top, whilst also cooked thoroughly. Of course, what’s most interesting about the Panasonic is that its oven also offers steam cooking. There’s a water tank on the right, below the door, and to the left is a drip tray. According to the thermal camera, there was still some unevenness around the edges, and after stirring the temperature fell to 88°C. Another 50secs took it up to an even 99°C.

The NN-DS596 is very well-featured, high-end combi microwave that gives good integrated models a run for their money. And it’s a decent option if you want to cook with steam. The Pana-crunch tray works well, too. I had an online chat with one of their customer service team, explained the leak and also that one of the feet was too short (they are non adjustable). She wanted to go through some trouble shooting steps [that's fine, makes sense]. Except the kinds of questions I was being asked didn't make any sense at all in relation to the issue I had just described (e.g. "What was the rice type?"). The glass tray is suitable for all functions, while the plastic trivet is meant for steaming tasks. Not suitable for straightforward microwave cooking, the wire shelf and enamel tray come in handy for grilling, convection and steaming tasks. If you primarily use the microwave feature, you’ll need to find somewhere to store those extra trays.
