A gorgeous cottage that is a huge part of Harriet and her friends lives where they spent time together whilst growing up and somewhere they come every year to meet up and relieve their younger years. The narrative follows the group as they spend the week together at a holiday cottage in Maine, one last hurrah before the cottage they have loved for many years is sold. wyn’s dad dying was a sort of superficial wound because it was an external circumstance/dent in their relationship. The only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 is that it did take me a bit to get into the romance plotline (not knowing the breakup reason for so long frustrated me), and I felt the pacing could be a bit quicker in the middle, but I LOVED the last 100 pages so so so much.

i was falling asleep because i felt like i’ve already read this 100000000 times in harry’s internal monologue. I approached Happy Place with some caution; where previous Emily Henry books shot straight to 5-star ratings, I had a couple of reader friends suggest this one was a notch below previous efforts. In fact, my only reservation with this book is that I can’t believe that anyone shortens the name ‘Harriet’ to ‘Har’ (am I wrong?Emily Henry has a gift of bringing you within the story and making you not only understand each character but imports you there so vividly too. Was it only long distance, did one of them cheat, or is there any crucial, life-changing reason that tore them apart?

and as always emily henry books are gonna hit a little harder, linger a little closer, and stay a little longer than any other romance book. i have read and rated all of her adult romances 5 stars because of her ability to

she was never taught how to fight with the ones she loves and that took a toll on the way she communicates in relationships. With tender insight and quick wit, Henry delivers prosecco and sea breezes alongside startling mediations on friendship, loss, and adulthood. I also felt nothing, nor empathy, sadness, pity or whatever towards any of these characters or their problems and relationships.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. i love how she creates stories differently with different plots and that the characters are all different and not carbon copies of each other. As someone who graduated college a few years ago, has felt the sadness of friends moving away and drifting apart, and looked back on my own happy place moments that feel too far in the past, this book HIT. I'm convinced the one and only reason he stayed with her for that long was bc she stroked his tiny, tiny dick and even tinier ego.I’m sure we all have a happy place where the weight of the world lifts off your shoulders when there. Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. THEN WHY IS SHE GIVING IT UP TO MOVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR A RELATIONSHIP THAT MIGHT FALL APART AGAIN BECAUSE THEY CAN’T FUCKING TALK TO EACH OTHER?
