About this deal

It pulled me out of my own head when I was reading it, and had me feeling a little bit of everything. The book was a bit long for a YA romcom contemporary, and I felt like it could have done without some parts having as much page time. they are literally so cute, from the prequel i knew i was going to enjoy the book, but wow i did not expect to love it the way i did! I was so excited to read this, thinking it’d be a super cute romance, exactly what I need more of in my life. Bailey met Charlie a year ago on the long flight to Omaha, where she moved after her parents’ divorce.

There was way to much conflict and miscommunication for me and it was missing the usual LP banter that I have grown to depend on.

i know her mom talked to her dad about not communicating with her for like four months (wtf), but it felt kinda glossed over - i wish they went into further depth. charlie had such sarcastic dry humor and he was so funny 😭🫶🏼 i liked that she was like relatable in the things she liked, such as having a bookstagram, listening to Taylor swift, reading books, without it being over the top or overly quirky. There was a vibe to the way she dressed, the whole I-don't-think-that-cardigan-even-fits-her-but-damn-she-looks-perfect kind of thing.

Like, years go by and they bump into each other at their new jobs in the same place and remember all these random quirks about each other? And if you havn't read Lynn Painter before, I'd suggest looking into her backlist books as well because they're all great! Though the miscommunication/lack of communication trope - one of my least favourite types of tropes - used for the plot really had me disappointed. I have been slowly moving away from YA, especially YA romance because I am getting older and these books don't have the vibes or emotions I really want in my romance books - but this one. the thing about relationships was that no one else knew the quiet, tiny moments that belonged exclusively to you two.

This is a person, who at worst, was your friend and at best, was someone you were hoping very much for more with, and this is the way they acted. My library just dropped this in my inbox and no slump in the world could keep me from reading and loving a Lynn Painter novel.charlie remembered the little things about bailey, and he was always so so so sweet, caring, and supportive. This is my third Lynn Painter book and while i enjoyed the others i read by her more (Better than the Movies will always be my fav), this was still a lot of fun!

What did his having a daughter my age have to do with the fact that I wasn’t wearing pants—or a bra—in front of him in our kitchen? The story is told through multiple POVs - Bailey and Charlie, with a few flashbacks every once in a while. it took me a long time to warm up to him, and i can say he is my least favorite love interest in any of lynn painter’s books so far.His relationship with Bailey was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed them as friends that slowly transitioned into something more. From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies , this swoon-worthy rom-com in the vein of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. Charlie, despite coming across as a bit of an annoying, know-it-all had so much depth and growth in this book.
