About this deal

I have had problems with Fertile Fibre this year very bad germination and it killed all of the cucumbers,I complained and was sent a replacement pallet,this was worse if anything,killed the rest of the cucumbers,although I was promised it would be fine,complained again and was offered another free pallet,but declined and now have bought a pallet of West Riding Module,this is better but we are short of transplants of barasicas,lettuce and beets as the first few batches didn’t grow,and I wasn’t sure what the problem was,I have used Fertile Fibre in the past and its been fine for most things and I found it particularly good for cucumbers,thats when I realised I had a big problem with it.

Some plants have liked it, but others I've struggled to germinate, including ones that usually grow like weeds. If you want peace of mind that your plant growing is completely vegan-friendly, we have just the solution.A question to everyone – why do we blame ourselves/the weather/anything before we point an accusing finger at an ‘organic quality’ product?

Re-sowed some cucurbits covering the trays to avoid them being over-watered and prevent sciarid coming in (using the same compost) and had better germination. I was chuffed with these dahlias sown in SylvaGrow with Added John Innes, which recently bagged a Which? I feel i have had a lucky escape reading the comments, decided to mainly avoid FF this year as we struggled with the first few sowings from the previous years compost and, although i attribute this to the age i have found the Klassman keeps much better. Secondly, any compost derived from composted waste is not a stable product and continues to breakdown, more importantly rot down. Hello – yes, we’ve had problems with FF (Vegro Multipurpose), as well: brassica seedlings – diff varieties from diff suppliers, all bought this yr – in particular failing to thrive and fly larvae eating the roots of the plants.Could you please advise on what peat free media is suitable for seed sowing, as the coir chips seem far too chunky for this purpose? We’ve also had low germinations, but as ever its hard to fathom the causes of this, although another (very experienced) grower to whom we gave a few bags has also had germination issues. There seems to be still some debate continuing as to what’s going to happen from January 2024 and plenty of confusion.

I have always found fertile fibre to be variable at best but after a reasonable year last year decided to continue using it. Just jumping on this thread as I've recently repotted a few neps in pure coir husk from Fertile Fibre.Yet again we are having serious propagation problems with ‘organic quality’ organic seed and potting composts. i imagine, as with most things organic, there is natural variation in the ingredients they use to make the compost.
