Its brilliantly written, in-depth and absorbing any Kray fans will eat this book within one sitting. This is going to stay on my self and I will absolutely be re-reading this in the future.One particular fight is very violent and both Krays take part. Fighting shoulder to shoulder with about ten enemies. So the Kray franchise is still generating the sort of attention, and money, to which they always aspired. To publicise Legend, there is an exhibition at a gallery on Bethnal Green Road, “depicting the softer side of Kray life ... visitors will be able to enjoy a cup of tea in a replica of Violet Kray’s living room featuring family photos and 60s wallpaper, whilst experiencing an audio-visual installation of interviews with local people who knew or have knowledge of the Krays.” The exhibition carries a statement from the film’s director, Brian Helgeland: “The East End is now a very different place where enterprise and design meet and the Krays have slipped into the alchemy of legend.” In July, he told the Guardian that he thought Reggie would consider his film fair and that Ronnie would enjoy being played by Tom Hardy. “So, yeah, all told they would dig it.”

Growing up, they both got diphtheria and measles. Naturally, being twins, they both got the infections. Ronnie almost died and when they both lived Ronnie became much slower then Reggie. The book itself was a fascinating read and insight into the lifestyle that these two lived. As a reader, you're torn between feeling disgusted at how easy it was for them to get away with all sorts crimes by twisting the law, but also a sense of admiration for how cunning they were. When the American Goodfellas come to London to see how they can cooperate with the Krays, there is a funny scene. In Legend, he has a serious challenge in coping with two different roles, even if these are twin brothers: This is one of many books about the infamous Kray Twins and their exploits in 1960's London. There is another book out there by the same author that updates this one after the twins demise and that may be the better read of the two. One of the flaws in this book is that it doesn't bring everything up to date despite the fact that this book was reprinted electronically in 2013. It ends with a postscript after the trial but that was a written in 1995 when the twins were still alive and eligible for parole. That never happened and they both died as prisoners though Reggie was released on compassionate grounds after it was clear that his race was over. This is a minor point but one that should be pointed out to anybody that might want to learn the full story of the Kray Twins and their gangland empire.

So when the film came out I just became more attracted to their story. I managed to find an original 1972 hardcover edition of John Pearson's book and devoured it! It's so well written I didn't want the book to end.
