About this deal

Fujifilm’s X-mount cameras use the APS-C format, so although this is a 27mm lens, its angle of view is actually equivalent to a 41mm lens on a full frame camera. This makes it slightly less ‘wide’ than a 35mm equivalent lens – the classic semi-wide lens focal length for street photography – but still wider than a 50mm ‘standard’ lens. Brightened ISO 160 images look a bit noisier than their native ISO 3200 output, but it's not a huge difference. This suggests the camera is adding very little noise, even in the lower gain mode. In practical terms, this means you can lower your ISO when shooting high contrast scenes, as a means of reducing exposure/preserving highlights, without facing much of a noise penalty when lightening shadows in post. However, users who want the absolute cleanest noise levels from this camera should shoot at ISO 800. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR doesn't exhibit any barrel distortion, as you can see in the photo below. There’s a special quality about the pictures captured with the 27mm f/2.8 lens. I’m not exactly sure what it is—the “it factor” maybe?—it’s really difficult to describe, but what I can tell you is that I like this little lens more than I thought I was going to. Maybe it’s the small size? I think more than anything the pictures that it produces attracts me to it. I absolutely love the new Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR lens, and it’s a great bargain when bundled with the Fujifilm X-E4. There are no color fringes when shot as JPG, where my X-S10 is probably correcting any that may be there. I can't vouch for what you'll see if you shoot raw and then open the files with non-Fuji software. I use a clear (UV) protective filter instead of a cap ( exactly like an iPhone) so I'm always ready to shoot instantly. I only use a cap when I throw this in a bag with other gear without padding — which is never. The UV filter never gets in the way, and never gets lost, either. The Canon EOS M6 Mark II is also a natural competitor to the X-E4, sporting similar specs. The most notable difference: the Canon doesn't have a built-in EVF, but it does offer an accessory unit for the hotshoe making it more expensive. Both are highly capable in the image quality department, though the Canon does offer more resolution. But on the video side, we much prefer the X-E4's output and feature set. We think the Fufjilm is a better looking camera than the Canon, but appreciate that latter's hardy grip and ample control points. But there's a lot more native glass available for the X-E4 than the M6 II, and the X-E4 offers superior battery life. The X-S10's in-camera stabilization makes it pretty easy getting perfectly sharp results like these hand-held at a ¼ of a second.The Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 ASPH is optically close to perfect, tiny and focuses super fast. It's a great little lens. You don’t have to like the ’40mm’ view, of course, but I rather do – although I don’t have this lens yet. Compromise is much sneered at but it’s essential to most aspects of life. Without it, you get products that are perfect in one aspect but too big, too expensive or too hard to use – and that applies to many kinds of equipment, not just photographic. This Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 is a tiny perfect-normal (41mm equivalent) lens that works on Fuji's X-mount cameras.

This is an optically superb and ultracompact lens. I have lens caps bigger and heavier than this tiny gem!The Fujifilm X-E4 is a lightweight, rangefinder-styled camera built around a 26MP APS-C sized sensor that uses the company's X-mount lineup of lenses. Billed as a fun-to-use and compact photographic companion, the X-E4 is the smallest X-mount camera on the market, encouraging you to keep it around wherever you go. This lens on my humble Fujifilm X-A1 means I look a lot less fancy than the guy next to me with a lens longer than my head! Looking like an amateur, in this respect, is a very good thing.

It provides a focal length similar to that of a 41mm lens in a 35mm full-frame system, giving a more natural angle of view that is closer to what the human eye sees than a standard 50mm lens.equivalent is the Perfect Normal because while full-frame 50mm lenses are often too long and 35mm lenses are often too wide, you'll discover that 41mm equivalent is always perfect. Bravo, Fujinon!

I see no spherochromatism (called color bokeh by hobbyists). This means that out-of-focus highlights remain neutral and don't take on slight color fringes. The focus ring is fairly narrow, but still pretty generous given the very short barrel, and it’s easy to find with your fingertips without having to look. There’s no focus distance scale and hence no depth of field markings, but these can be displayed on the camera instead. On the other hand, the focus ring is pretty negligible. It’s just as slim as the focusing ring on the X100V, so it’s kind of hard to use comfortably with manual focus, but it turns smoothly and is nicely dampened. I would have liked to see a tab or lever or something that protrudes from the focus ring to help with manual focus, but most people are probably not utilizing manual focus with this lens unless absolutely necessary. (Side note: you can actually buy an external focusing tab attachment on Etsy that might make this more comfortable if you deem manual focus a necessity with this lens, or just want a more rangefinder-style experience.)

Ease of Use

Video-wise, the X-E4 is also highly capable with nicely detailed 4K output, including 8-bit Log capture internally and 10-bit Log capture to a dedicated capture device (via Micro-HDMI). Full HD video can be captured at up 240 fps, for all your super-slow motion needs. And you can plug in a microphone and headphones (the latter via USB-C to audio dongle). Arguably, the only important video-centric feature absent from the X-E4 is in-body image stabilization for hand-held shooting.
