It was the result of the blending, stabilization and maturing processes of long-aged rums by doctor and chemist named Alejandro Burgaleta. Raisins, sultana’s and prunes come through to add to the aged oaky flavours giving a very well-balanced and smooth rum and coke. Firstly, that the sugar cane used to make Ron Zacapa rum is actually harvested by hand, which leads to a smarter yield at greater discretion of the harvester (as opposed to mechanized efficiency that also can’t selectively recognize perfect ripeness).Local Guatemalan doctor Alejandro Burgaleta tinkered with the distillation and stabilization of his rum for some time before finally unveiling the first bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario in 1976, on the centennial anniversary of the town of Zacapa in eastern Guatemala. Zacapa 23 is a super-premium rum made from a blend of rums aged between 6 and 23 years old, Zacapa has been awarded first place five times in a row at the International Rum Contest *- the only luxury rum in the Rum Hall of Fame, Warm and smooth on the nose with sweet hints of vanilla, honey, dried fruits, smoke and orange peel. The rum quickly became one of the country’s marquee products, a source of pride in terroir and technology, ideally enjoyed in moderation. This has also been further confused by different territories enjoying different expression of their rums. Zacapa has been awarded first place five times in a row at the international Rum Contest* and is the only luxury rum in the Rum Hall of Fame.

If it was crystal I’d pay the money happily but as you can see I’m talking more about the glass bottle than the rum it’s self so that should give you an idea where my mind is with this slick marketing and clever design. Originally released for the Travel retail market, Ron Zacapa's Ámbar rum is a solera-aged expression that was "crafted for the perfect cocktail", according to the label. If you do require precise ingredient information you should consult the manufacturer, whose contact details will appear on the packaging or label.This heritage is intrinsic to the craftsmanship of Zacapa, which is why we adorn every bottle with a petate band. The “Petate” weaving on the bottle is a Mayan symbol and is hand weaved by Mayan descendants in Guatemala. After tasting that and seeing the offer of 3 for 2 of the Ron Zapaca 23, it would have been silly not to purchase.The casks work in harmony, and you'll find bold notes of oak char and brown sugar alongside lots of dark chocolate in this one. I got this after being very impressed with the Zacapa 23, and was expecting a major upgrade in both, flavor and smoothness. Made from sugar cane honey under the watchful eye of Lorena Vasquez, Zacapa is great as a sipper or cocktail ingredient. If they are adding a mixer, they are totally missing the experience and don’t have a right to rate this one. Presumably so your greasy hands don't slip as you double fist this bottle straight into your mouth because I could CHUG this stuff, even though it's a bit weird and thin.

Zacapa XO is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks and pairs beautifully with dark chocolate and desserts. A particularly decadent rum from Ron Zacapa, long-aged in a Solera system and allowed a finishing period in French oak casks from Le Bois du Roy - the wood comes from four French forests, protected since the 13th century when the King imposed strict restrictions on the harvest. Zacapa Rum is made using the first press of virgin sugar cane and aged using the Sistema Solera method, crafted by our Master Blender Lorena Vásquez.Upon a further nosing I am also getting a feeling for the aged rums in the blend with a little oak and cocoa coming through.
