In terms of storage, this mini Ryzen desktop offers an M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 SSD slot that supports up to 4TB of lightning-fast storage. This means you can store your entire digital library, including games, videos, and creative projects, all in one place. Additionally, the MinisForum HX99G Mini PC features an M.2 2280 SSD slot that supports NGFF SATA or NVMe PCIe4.0 SSD, providing flexibility and expandability for your storage needs. But, where NUC systems often disappoint is with limited upgrade potential, and the HX77G has that requirement covered.

Graphics Card

The HX99G features an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX Rembrandt APU. This processor is based on the AMD Zen3+ architecture, and it was the best APU AMD had when this product first came out a few months ago. Furthermore, it is paired with Radeon RX 6600M discrete GPU which has more than twice as many GPU cores as the integrated RDNA2 GPU into the APU. This is a short evaluation of the system focusing on CPU capabilities, thermals and power consumption. Since this is a gaming Mini-PC our primary goal was to test some popular and heavy titles on this device. Our final benchmark is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The MinisForum HX99G mini PC for gaming is essentially tied with the NUCXi5 for 2nd place at 4K. When it comes to video output, the MinisForum HX99G features two HDMI ports, supporting 4K resolution at a smooth 60Hz refresh rate. This allows you to connect multiple displays and enjoy stunning visuals with exceptional clarity. Additionally, the Ryzen small form factor computer offers two USB4 ports, supporting 8K resolution at an impressive 60Hz refresh rate, ensuring compatibility with the latest display technologies and delivering an immersive viewing experience like never before.

Our test PC is equipped with 8GBx2 DDR5-4800 memory by Kingston. There is also a 512GB Kingston PCIe4x4 NVMe M.2 drive preinstalled, which is the lowest option for this system. And at 720P we can see that while the HX99G Ryzen mini PC remains in second place, there is only a few frames per second difference between it and the NUCXi7. Gaming Benchmarks Summary

Minisforum were kind to borrow a computer based on AMD CPU and GPU architecture. What makes this product special is the fact that it does not rely on a low-power integrated GPU, but it is equipped with a discrete GPU powerful enough to enable some high-quality gaming, but more on that later. The max RAM of HX80G is 64GB with speed limit to 3200MHz. The max RAM of HX99G is 64GB with speed limit to 4800MHz. During the synthetic performance comparison, our test unit places only in the lower middle of the comparison field. The age of the AMD Radeon RX 6600Mis noticeable at this point, and the successors based on RDNA-3 are getting ready. Those who still need a higher 3D performance can use the Thunderbolt connection, which is currently only offered in the HX99G of the series. We got to work and documented the performance in combination with the Razer Core X and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. With that, we achieve a performance in our comparison that corresponds to that of the Minisforum NUCXi7with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop. At the same time, you still have to make do with significant performance limitations, since using Thunderbolt, the external graphics card is only connected via 4 PCI Express lanes. Overall, some considerable thought went into the design of the HX77G, how it might be used and what owners might want to do with it. The device is relatively quiet, even though there are two fans that blow the heat from the case. Our test unit was able to run through all our tests with a solid performance and without any larger missteps. In terms of the system performance, it is able to keep up with regulardesktop PCs, and the gaming performance is also respectable due to the AMD Radeon RX 6600M. But it's at least twice as fast as its integrated counterpart, and in some scenarios, it can be even faster. Where the Radeon 680M might struggle with having many visual enhancements active on a game at 1080p, the RX 6600M should be playable at these resolutions on many titles and without the detail settings forced to the lowest level.

Emissions - Good cooling concept and not too loud

The PC arrives without a carrying case (like we had on other Minisforum products). The bundle includes the necessary power cable, one HDMI 2.1 cable, optional base support and a frame in case you want to use this system vertically. There is however no way to mount this system with through VESA mount, so it is either standing or laying on the desk. With the Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, the manufacturer performs some product maintenance on its very compact gaming PCs. With the new AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, there is a fast SoC, even though it is unable to ensure a noticeable increase in the performance compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Due to the compact construction, we see that as so often, laptop technology is also used here in these compact PCs. Usually this works very well, since the performance of the separate components has hugely increased in the last few years. With the native octa-core processor ( AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX), there is sufficient performance, and in combination with the AMD Radeon RX 6600M, you can even enjoy the most current games. According to our tests, unlimited gaming is possible in 1080p and the highest detail settings. Of course, Metro Exodus and Red Dead Redemption 2 are extremely intensive, so it’s no wonder that the HX99G struggles with them. Still, you can get seriously awesome performance out of this mini PC. Minisforum Neptune HX99G review: Software I’m a big fan of the Minisforum HX99G. In fact, it’s difficult to find anything truly wrong with it other than some particular issues with my unit. For example, it seems like the model I received struggles with display output inconsistencies, where it simply won’t output to any monitor from any of the HDMI or USB4 ports. I never did figure out the problem, and I suspect a manufacturing defect is to blame.
