About this deal

From the moment I read the synnopsis I was intrigued!Love/hate relationships always are the best!!Finally we can see and understand some of Madoc's reactions in the previous books and finally we can understand him better!!The characters were realistic and all the time I felt like I was into the story!!It was hot,funny and romantic! The writing. Penelope Douglas can write. No question about it. She takes this really compelling and sometimes difficult characters and make you fall in love with them. That's what she did with Madoc. You all remembered Madoc, right? I cheered Tate on when she finally junk punched the guy. He was the classic arrogant douchecanoe but at the end of Bully, I wanted his story so bad. We finally got a glimpse of it during Until You. And I was excited to read his story because of forbidden quality to it.

I'm so disappointed with this book! From the very start it was cliché after cliché. There was so many scenes and dialogue that I skipped because it was just too cringey to read. Everything was so unrealistic or dramatic for the sake of it. I hoped that this series would of improved as time went on because I think each book has great potential but the execution doesn't work for me sadly. I was highlighting so many mistakes on my kindle I simply had to stop. I loved the way the author subtly included little elements and details that made me fall for him while he was being a bully but yet that also didn't excusing his actions. She made it clear to the readers that there was something deeper beneath the surface... something that the heroine couldn't quite see at first. I am conducting what I'm shelving as a "New Adult (NA) Experiment". I'm going to work my way through some of the popular New Adult books and see if I can weed out the crap and hopefully find some surprising gems. Here's hoping! Tate and Fallon never kiss or sleep with other guys but it's perfectly acceptable for their male counterparts to be manwhores. Oh, never mind. In my dreams, I was much braver. In my dreams, I might take an ice cube and do things God didn’t intend a sixteen year old girl to do just to see if I could make his cool demeanor falter. What if? What if?Tate has no idea why Jared hates her so much when they used to be best friends. This book follows Tate learning to stand up for herself, and stop being bullied by the boy who lives next door. There is great character development throughout this book and it’s amazing to see how Tate is figuring herself out while working through the situation that has caused her years of heartache. There is a lot of emotional tension throughout the entire book, and it builds on the sexual tension forming between these characters. OMG can't wait ....love soo much this type of storylines with angst, character knowing each other since childhood, sexual tension, the game of seduction, who's going to succumb first. why the hell would they get married? They're too young, still step siblings and why couldn't it wait til after college if the truly want to be together forever? So unrealistic!! Everything about him was just so contradictory. He blared music late at night so she couldn't sleep but covered for her at school when she was in trouble. He made sure none of the guys at school ever touched yet and yet clearly didn't want her for himself. I kept trying to figure him out. Maybe it was his messed up way of trying to protect her? Maybe he didn't feel good enough for her and was trying, in the only way he knew how, to look out for her?

What was not to love? Gorgeous story telling, fantastic writing talent, characters that blew me away and a plot that stole my heart. Everything about this novel dramatically appealed to my reading tastes. I loved that this book was deliciously tempting and swayed on the side of taboo but never crossed over into the uncomfortable territory, instead it made my heart pound and the anticipation of what was to come was well played out by the author. I'll always have a soft spot for a dual point of view in a novel especially one that provides the reader with an opportunity to get involved with the characters thoughts and feelings. I had a honest to goodness soft spot for both hero and heroine in this story and nothing appeals more than characters who profess to hate each other when in truth their love is just as evident. Madoc and Fallon were fantastic lead characters and in addition to falling for their love story I also fell for them as individuals and I adored them both equally as much. Sibling rivalry, falling unashamedly in lust, chemistry that can't be rivalled (see what I did there?) and a story that will stay with me for some time to come 'Rival' is one of my favourites of 2014 and a book that deserves to be celebrated for all it's deliciously dark romantic talent. Penelope Douglas has created a love to hate you story that has blown me away. For those readers that can't help but be attracted to angry sex, broken characters and epic love stories that break you up and by the end fix you all up again then this book will be just what you need. I will say though that despite everything going on between them - Jared and Tate had some seriously chemistry!! Talk about unresolved sexual tension! I mean really! But I loved that despite everything he did while he was being mean, that he never crossed the line into touching her... that again was more proof to me of him feeling something deeper for her. You know what I used to call you? Pussy-on-the-Premises. You were convenient when I need to blow a load, Fallon.’’ Jax OMG!!!!He is amazing!!!I need his book now!!!!If you loved Bully and Until You then you definately love this one!!!

I opened my eyes, feeling flushed seeing everyone visibly entertained by the harassment I’d endured tonight. Jared stared at the table, nostrils flaring, ignoring me. His behavior still puzzled me after all this time. We used to be friends, and I still searched for that kid in his eyes somewhere. But what good did it do me to still hang on to a memory of him? I made a comparison between Jared/ Tate and Madoc/Fallon. The first couple based their relationship on more feelings than the second one. Jared and Tate bonded as kids and were driven by hate, love, lust. But there are feelings involved, more intense than Madoc/Fallon. From my point of view our heroes were more intense and explosive, having this attraction impossible to ignore. The attraction was there, but I was not very convinced of the love. This constant push and pull diminished a little the love it had to be between them. I don't know if I made myself clear, but I tried. I devoured this book in a day. It reminded me all over again why I love this woman's writing. She does it for me every time. Every. Single. Time. Now to just finish the rest of this series!!! There was a time when I had all his attention and I loved it. And as much I wanted him to leave me alone, I also liked..the way he was looking at me right now. And then I remembered that I hated him."
