About this deal

For fans of Colleen Hoover, an unforgettable and heartbreaking love story with an earth-shattering secret at its core that asks the question: Is love worth risking everything for? Paige Toon's writing is emotional and riveting. Even while her novel was breaking my heart into tiny pieces, I could not put it down' Jill Santopolo I absolutely wasn't expecting the twist, towards the end the story was so bittersweet and I found myself frustrated with it, but what a perfect ending. There’s a lot to love it’s not just a romance, it’s about love and family, loss and healing, learning to live again and accept. The problem is that the man she meets is closed off emotionally and unavailable to Wren, for reasons that aren't too clear at first.

I’ve never read a book by Paige Toon before and I will not be reading another. That means I have no comparison to her other works but the writing in this book was horrendous. Emotional, angsty, and utterly romantic. This story will have you wiping away tears one moment, and smiling dreamily the next' Mia Sheridan After finding out her fiancé’s in love with another woman Wren travels to visit her father even though their relationship is strained just to get away from it all. There she meets Anders who lost his wife four years ago. Neither of them expected to fall in love. My mother has always told me to trust my instincts. But it’s hard to trust your instincts when they’re breaking your heart. this was my first paige toon novel and it’s safe to say it will not be my last. the plot and characters were so well written, i felt so immersed in the story. i flew through this book - i just could not put it down.Wren finds herself staying with her Dad and step mum and step sister in America after she goes through an upsetting break up with the man she loves. Whilst there she has to figure out the dynamics of her family and once again she feels as thought she's on the outside looking in and not quite sure where she belongs. She soon gets used to the simpler way of living and begins to form a strong bond with her sister which is different to the one she had before now that they're both grown up. On a night out they meet two brothers and Wren is fascinated with one of them in particular called Anders. Their paths cross multiple times and when Wren decides to renovate an old Airstream, ( I had to look this up and it's a shiny steel camper van,) she finds at her dad's house, Anders wants to help her. This book is a delicious, slow burn love story that hit me in parts of my heart I didn't even know I had' Annabel Monaghan Read more Details We are transported to rural Indiana, where Wren has gone to heal from her heartbreak. The setting is wonderful as well it’s like a British girls idealised version of America, long summer days, handsome strangers, country farms and fire flies at night.

I received an ARC from Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. About 75% of the story is told from Wren’s point of view and the narrator’s interpretation of the character was a seamless fit. Loved her voice tone. When we begin getting Anders’s point of view, it’s at a pivotal point in the story and the narrator brought the right level of angst, sadness and tone I was hoping to hear. Both delivered great performances.

When Wren meets racing car engineer Anders, a ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship develops but with Anders still grieving over his wife’s accident four years ago, can she break down his barriers to love again? As the smouldering tension increases between them it makes for some steamy reading, until the reality of Anders’ heartache is revealed and then it became emotionally wrenching for them both. The moral dilemma Wren and Anders both face but from different perspectives, makes for a thought-provoking debate for reading groups. thank you so much to penguin cornerstone for this arc via netgalley in exchange for an honest review! What a beautiful, lovely tearjerker of a book. This story will stay with me for a long time' Lizzy Dent Paige Toon is one of my favourite authors, predominantly because she always puts a little bit of her heart and soul in to her characters and storytelling, and you just feel that instant connection so naturally and fluently through the books. Only Love Can Hurt Like This is a beautiful plot set mainly in the US around Indiana, which was a beautiful setting to be immersed in for the summer of peach harvesting and corn cropping on the family farms.Wren’s fiancé left her for another. Ander’s wife passed away years ago. Neither of them are ready to start again but fate doesn’t sync people’s struggles with the opportunity of a lifetime. If only there wasn't a secret ready to destroy all their dreams. Overall, I really loved feeling like I was part of the book, that I was meeting with real friends and not characters made to entertain me. The problem was a bit too dramatic for me, but at least the blurb hinted it would be. Guess I’ll be reading more contemporaries in the future because Paige Toon’s pen is not one I want to ignore now that I’ve found it. Wren has just come out of a relationship, and comes to the US for a change of scenery. A very nice change of scenery, because here we meet Anders.
