There are cringe inducing moments in the interviews of ego stroking among these elites, but this is the way these people talk to one another. I keep reading that people thought this book made them conceited flying to all these different places and talking to the big names of the fashion and art world.

Ashley founded her luxury brand, The Row, in 2006, and co-design Elizabeth and James with Mary Kate. I find Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen interesting people, and enjoyed reading interviews with famous people in fashion, but I wouldn't recommend this as a book to read cover-to-cover.The book includes interviews with: Karl Lagerfeld, Diane Von Furstenberg, John Galliano, Lauren Hutton, Christian Louboutin, amongst many others. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Influence will be filled with never-before-seen photographs from Ashley and Mary-Kate’s private collections, pages of original material by Ashley and Mary-Kate, and interviews with some of the most influential tastemakers in the world. Lots of beautiful, high-quality photos of the Olsens as well as of famous people and LOTS of fashion items - drawings, exhibits, artwork, etc.I really liked the premise of this book in that all of the interviews and ideas tied into an overall theme as large as "influence. Interviews with people the olsens have been inspired and influenced by and also interviews with Mary Kate and Ashley. When I heard last year that the Olsen twins would be releasing a book chronicling their fashion influences, my mind immediately flashed towards the Paris Hilton-penned Confessions of an Heiress - after all, it seemed like another set of tabloid darlings were trying to add “author” to their resumés.

Ultimately, they reached the goal they set out for - in allowing yourself to get sucked into the detailed images and insightful interviews in this book, you can’t help but feel a little bit inspired. The little talks with those big people are anything but influential and if it gets interesting at some point the credit entirely goes to the artist being interviewed, not to the Olsens’ skills.There's a pretty heavy-handedness to Mary Kate's love of Warholian culture just in terms of who she interviews and the questions involved.
