Ecovacs’ Deebot T9+ sits just a few places below the brand’s top-of-the-line model, the Deebot X1 Omni, yet still delivers many of the same features, such as intelligent mapping and mopping. Sure, you might think it’s a bit of a splurge, but considering all the time that’s spent keeping your floors clean, the investment will pay for itself. Of course, Ecovacs’ Deebot T9+ is more than just a vacuum. It offers air freshener and mopping abilities too. Swapping between the two functions is as simple as putting in a different component. It registers immediately, and you can send the device on its way.

With the top LiDAR sensor now moved, the X2 Omni has a flat top cover with a brushed-silver finish and a single button to start and stop cleaning. Open the lid up and you’ve got easy access to the robot’s dustbin which holds 14.2oz / 420ml of debris, making it a bit bigger than the X1 Omni’s 13.5oz / 400ml canister. A retractable bumper surrounds the front half, and it contains the robot’s camera along with some of its sensors. When you pop open the top of the Auto-Empty Station, you’ll find the preinstalled 2.5-liter dust bag isn’t massive, but should last a month or two. In addition, your first dust bag replacement is provided. Under the station is a large tube into which the dust bin is emptied, adding to the Auto-Empty Station's overall size. Nevertheless, it’s on a par with rival vacuums, and not an eyesore by any means. One early critique that I have for the X2 Omni is its object avoidance capabilities. As mentioned, I’ve been using one of Ecovacs’ premium models from 2022 for over a year, and I feel as though the X2 Omni bumps into objects and obstacles more frequently than the older model. I believe this may have something to do with the LiDAR sensor being moved from the top of the robot and being built into the side of the bot instead. It could also be a result of the new softly squared shape, but it’s too early to tell at this stage. While the mopping abilities have been quite good, the X2 Omni isn’t able to properly lift the mopping pads high enough to avoid dampening the carpet. In my testing so far, the edges where carpet meets tile have been left slightly damp, though not enough to be worrisome. I’ve only tested it with Medium water flow level, and I’ll need to see how damp carpets can become while using the highest water flow setting before giving a final verdict.

The Deebot X1 Omni isn’t the quietest robot vacuum we’ve tested. Our decibel meter measured a maximum of 60dB when it was cleaning hard floors, rising to 70dB on Max+, and a few decibels quieter on carpet. This is the equivalent level of noise made by a shower. If your floor is completely carpeted, we recommend positioning the station so that it faces the same direction as the carpet pile (rather than perpendicular to the carpet).

From our comparison of Deebot X2 vs. X1, it is evident that Deebot X2 OMNI is more innovative and better in cleaning performance. The Deebot OMNI X2 can be too expensive for average users, and most need to get used to such a level of automation. But after some time you will start to love it and forget about cleaning. But we must admit that Deebot X2 and X1 are among the most advanced robots on the market. So far, I’ve only asked the X2 Omni to map my apartment once, and it was fairly accurate. It initially mapped my kitchen and a hallway that leads into it as one single room, but this was easily fixed afterwards by separating the areas in the app. I’d like to give the robot a few more chances before definitively commenting on its mapping capabilities, but my first impressions are that it gets the job done reasonably well. It does all these tasks well, but there are other products out there which offer a similar feature set at a lower price. For example, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni has comparable performance and was released at a similar price point in 2022, but you can find it on sale fairly frequently. Note that the dust box can be manually emptied – although, as we’ve already mentioned, this does require the lid to be removed first. However, with that done, we simply had to raise the handle and carry the dust box straight to the garbage. We liked that the handle kept the dust box upright, so no debris could fall from it.

Turn the Deebot X1 Omni over and you’ll find a swivel wheel at the front, plus two additional wheels on either side of the unit to help the robot vacuum to work its way around your home. Just like other robot vacuums, such as the Dreame Bot L10 Pro, the side wheels raise and lower, too, allowing the robovac to effectively clean a range of different surfaces.

As you’d expect, there’s also a brush that combines soft bristles with silicon fins to ensure debris from all surfaces can be collected. There are two side brushes, too, which can help sweep dirt from crevices into the vacuum’s path, and two removable 5.2in mopping pads. Just like the majority of robot vacuums on the market, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is circular-shaped and measures 4.3 x 13.6 x 13.6 inches / 10.9 x 34.5 x 34.5cm (h x w x d). It’s slightly taller than some models on the market, but it didn’t have any issues maneuvering between chair legs or under furniture with low clearance. During emptying, a small amount of the garbage smell will be driven out by the high-power fan, but this does not affect normal operation. One major concern is maintenance. Some of the T9+’s components need to be replaced more frequently; the air freshener and dust bags every 60 days or so, depending on use. Others, such as the brushes and filters, will last for one hundred hours or more, although cleaning using the handy included tool is suggested to maintain peak performance.No initial mapping or anything else is required beforehand; the Deebot T9+ just goes on its merry way as soon as you press Auto Cleaning. To start, it went to my living room, traversing with relative ease, even going under furniture that was mere millimeters from the laser mapping tool that sits on top. I saw it doing a full wrap-around table legs and chairs for a thorough cleaning. Deemaid continued cruising in and out of different rooms and then would return, seemingly getting the lay of the land. As soon as it hit a rug, you could hear the suction intensify. Auto-emptying will not start when you tell DEEBOT to return to the station after you have finished using Video Manger. The app provides instructions on how to clean those accessories, as well as the percentage of time left until replacement. Following 11 hours of cleaning, most of Deemaid’s parts were still in the range of 90%. But that’s just a suggestion, with many of these parts lasting much longer. Just use your discretion.
