It started out okay. I had high hopes. It was good until Brooke started using her brain all the time. This book would 100% be better if she doesn't think too much so she doesn't confuse everyone. Even she manages to confuse herself, if you can believe it. I have read 3 books so far and could not put them down. The Perfect Son was the first book, then Do You Remember, then Do Not Disturb. I am currently reading Brain Damage. Excellent writing, please don’t stop. I have passed your name on to other friends and family who I know will enjoy your books as much as I do. Keep em coimng! AMAZING ENDINGS!! I think The Inmate was my absolute favorite. I cannot wait to read more. Your books are just amazing, I cannot put them down. Shane has always claimed he was innocent and is now concerned the real killer will come after Brooke once again.In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room. One that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. Hale has ever interviewed. As Tricia listens to the cassette tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Hale’s mysterious disappearance. Major spoilers/discussion on the extreme similarly to another work to follow: I wonder if Freida McFadden is a big fan of the Scream franchise? The similarities between Shane’s mother and Mrs. Loomis in Scream 2 are, well, striking. Not just the bonkers insane mother avenging her (murderous and terrible) son for “wrongs” his ex-girlfriend supposedly committed against him, but ALL of it. Please note this section will also spoil Scream and Scream 2 if you haven’t seen them. How do the police work in that town, do they just keep relying on whatever Brooke tells them, they haven’t thought of investigationg any of the murders further?!

YEP…. it’s speedy alright — I actually guessed one aspect of the story early on �� but not the full extent of it… I so thought I had this figured out. (I’m usually not wrong very often), but I was so wrong - hence refer to my first sentence.Tess has no choice but to accept her new life and hope her memory will return. After all, why should she doubt the letter she wrote to herself? Or the kind man from the wedding photos on her dresser who seems to genuinely care about her well-being? Also, some of the plot points were just insane. Margie/Pamela helps her kid murder all of these people over the span of ELEVEN years and then just casually gives it all up just because her son died? When the grandson is still alive??? Brooke is now dating Tim! Can she trust Tim? She knew him since they were kids but did he lie? Maybe Shane is telling the truth. Did she help put her son's father in prison? Ughh!!🙄 I just finished Housemaid AND Housemaid’s Secret! Oh my goodness! Both are fantastic. So easy to read and you just cannot put them down once you start. Bought The Coworker and cannot wait to start reading it. Reply

Even before the big reveal, when Brooke thought Shane and Tim were in on the original murders together, it gave a strong original Scream vibe (Billy and Stu). Right down to intending to give each other superficial injuries to look like innocent victims. And for a while the reader was supposed to wonder if Shane was really innocent, sent to prison by Brooke’s damning testimony. Just like in Scream, where Cotton Weary was wrongly convicted in large part due to Sidney’s testimony. Decades later, Nora’s father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.The POV change in the epilogue made it even worse for me - first of all, the kid sounded much younger than 10 by the way it was written, in my opinion. But then he casually confesses to killing someone? HUH???

A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems. Please Lord, give me the strength to never listen to this type of book again. Just plain embarrassingly AWFUL! My husband and I lived near Raleigh, NC 40 yrs., & recently retired in a quaint town full of mysteries & many wonderful people sprinkled with some rather odd ones too! I’m sure they will pop up in one of my books in the near future! Both works involve affairs between the parents of main characters. In The Inmate, Brooke’s father had an affair with Shane’s mother. In Scream, Sidney’s mother had an affair with Billy Lommis’ father. I listened to the audio version and the narrator did a great job! This was my first 🎧 by Freida McFadden and I am already searching for more of her works!I have read all the books except the 2 short stories. For some reason I have never liked short stories. All the rest, I just devoured continuously til they were all read. Brooke was written too dumb for this to be remotely enjoyable. Another idiot-driven plot. Actually, I'm beginning to think McFadden writes the dumbest protagonists — women who are helpless and can hardly think for themselves. Fingers are pointing galore! The two men hate each other and each tells her to be weary of the other. Along the lines, Brooke really gets confused. She begins to wonder if her testimony put the right man in jail. She’s sure of it, and then she’s not. She never did saw the actual face of the one who tried to kill her all those years ago! She never saw the murderer that night at all, the one who killed her friends. Was she right about Brandon? Wrong about Tim? Things are really confusing about both their present behaviors and the details of their personalities and present actions.
