BenQ exclusive HDR-PRO™ technology enhances the 4K HDR viewing experience. HDR-PRO offers greater contrast range to bring out every detail. The auto HDR colour mapping produces deep colours true to the HDR10 and HLG* standards, pulling you into the emotion of every scene. Motion Interpolation (MEMC) The BenQ V6050 delivers an impressive, large image after only a few minutes of setup. The picture is very bright, thanks to a peak output of 3,000 lumens, and the geometry and uniformity are also excellent. The single-chip nature of DLP ensures sharp and detailed images, and the automatic focus works extremely well. There’s an eye protection motion sensor that shuts down the laser light source should a pet, child or anyone else for that matter get too close and put their head in front of the lens. This is a useful safety feature, but didn’t appear to be on by default, so it’s worth selecting if you have kids.

There are no big lens shift or zoom features here. It’s a fixed lens and only a little fine-tuning with the motor focus setting in the Installation menu is needed to sharpen up the edges. Drop down to 1080p with Captain America: Civil War on Blu-ray and the general look and feel is on a par with the higher-resolution picture. Given that it matches the panel’s native resolution, there’s no kind of pixel-shifting or scaling required. There’s less colour processing to worry about and it’s also easier for user calibration. We keep the contrast setting near the middle to maintain some comparable dynamism to the HDR performance. Producing 4K UHD 3840x2160 resolution with 8.3 million distinct pixels for each frame, the V6000 reduces pixel blur for awe-inspiring clarity and crisply defined fine details.

The sunroof on the top of the V6000 automatically closes when the projector is not in use, avoiding dust build-up and exposing the lens. When in use the roof will open automatically. Motion Sensor for Eye Protection In terms of what’s missing, there’s no built-in tuner, nor is there a smart platform. If you want to use the V6050 in lieu of a TV you’re going to need an outboard terrestrial or satellite box, but at least the BenQ supports HLG, so you can take full advantage of broadcast HDR. In addition, any number of affordable media players are available to add a full set of streaming services.

The V6050 has a big chassis and we’re surprised there’s nothing more complex here than a pair of forward-facing speakers made up of tweeters and mid/bass cones. The sides of the projector, which could have been used to shoot out more sound, house the large vents that keep this UST cool and generally running fairly quietly. While a conventional projector requires most of the room to create a large image, this ultra short-throw model can do the same while only centimetres from the wall. BenQ even includes a pair of pull-out measuring rulers that show how far away from the wall you need to be for different screen sizes. The V6050 is capable of producing an image from 70 to 120 inches in size (diagonally). The BenQ V6000 ultra-short throw projector combines a premium design and form (it’s just 10 kg, easy to move around). It’s easy to set up and fits into the tightest corners in your home. It doesn’t come cheap but delivers on its main promise of a big screen entertainment experience in the comfort and safety of your home.
