Today, Vodafone serves more than 18 million mobile and fixed-line customers in the UK. Vodafone is the largest provider of full fibre in the UK – our superfast broadband services are now available to nearly 12 million homes across the UK. The disadvantage of choosing an eSIM is the fact you’re getting a data-only service. This means you’ll need to use your normal SIM card for calling and texting, with all of the usual roaming fees that will apply for doing that. For that reason, it’s unlikely to be very much cheaper than roaming on a good UK SIM card such as VOXI’s Pay As You Go SIM. The EE prepaid sim cards at London Heathrow Airport are the only ones that are NOT 5G ready, also EE does not include any free EU data roaming, that makes it very easy for Traveltomtom to not recommend EE sim cards. Also prices for EE sim cards are much higher than other sim cards at London Heathrow. Huawei E5573Cs-322, 4G Travel Hotspot– this is the one I usewith a SMARTY sim card or an EE sim card for better coverage in remote areas.

Being one of the biggest airports in the world you can understand that getting lost around here is pretty easy. There are 4 terminals in use: 2,3,4 and 5. There are free busses and trains running between the terminals, but for buying a sim card at London Heathrow there is no need to travel to another terminal. All terminals at London Heathrow offer the same UK sim card services for tourists. There are plenty of places to buy sim cards: baggage claim hall, arrival hall, sim card vending machines, tourists information desks and even at convenience stores.

In general, all networks have good overall coverage for 3G and 4G in most large towns/cities. In major cities such as London, Edinburgh, and Manchester you’ll find decent 5G coverage from all major networks. When in remote areas, coverage can be spotty but from my personal experience, EE is normally really reliable with o2 following shortly behind. I personally find Vodafone to be the least reliable network overall. Three is OK in cities/towns but when I am in remote areas such as the Scottish Highlands and Cornwall it can have a slow speed or bad signal. But cost-wise, EE is the most expensive network so you do have to pay extra for access to their better coverage. I don’t really recommend them for other rural areas though as I’ve found them to have a bad signal around the South West of England, and Wales. o2 Is a lot cheaper than EE though, so if you’ll be in a city like London or York I recommend buying a sim card from o2 to save on money. Before using e-sim cards Traveltomtom has used the Orange Holiday Europe with now 30 GB data multiple times for my trips to Europe and it always worked smooth as silk.
