I’m saying most people because there will be some who want a dedicated single-dose grinder, and for them, it probably doesn’t make sense to pay extra for the weight-based timing function.The Mignon Specialita is quiet grinder. This quietness gives it a big advantage over many other domestic grinders. In our opinion, it is the quietest flat burr electric grinder available. All people are different regarding noise, but I can’t stand sudden loud sounds, so this is a plus. Single dosing with the Eureka Mignon? Again we've got 55mm burrs, but with the brew pro, they're the slightly different burr design made with manual brew in mind rather than espresso, although these burrs will also work for espresso, they're slightly modified with the aim of improving grinds consistency at coarser grind settings. The Eureka Mignon Specialita is a premium-quality espresso grinder for home use. It is a wonderful option for coffee lovers looking for consistent grounds to get the best out of high-end espresso machines. It is sturdily and beautifully built, has low retention and quiet grinding – and most importantly – produces an excellent grind quality.

The DF64 is also a stepless flat burr grinder. It’s designed as a single-dose grinder as opposed to the Mignon Specialita’s hopper. There are three major advantages that the DF64 has over the Mignon Specialita: versatility, grind retention, and value. You're going to get some grind retention with just about all grinders, and generally speaking the bigger the burrs, the bigger the retention – although that's not always the case, and there are modifications that can be done to the bigger commercial grinders to reduce retention. Distinguished by its modern, square body and bean hopper, the Specialita exudes Italian flair and comes in a variety of color options to complement your espresso machine. As you would expect, the build quality of this grinder is superb. Weighing a substantial 12 lbs, it is encased in steel that can withstand rigorous use. A better comparison would probably be with one of the higher end Mignons such as the Atom or Zenith. If you want to make anything other than espresso, I’d recommend something like the Fellow Opus as an all-around budget grinder and a superior choice for something like pour-over or drip coffee.

Ideal Environment

The DF64 is a fine multipurpose grinder. Moreover, it makes an excellent espresso grinder as its value and ease makes up for the somewhat limited range. However, for dedicated use dialing in precise shots, I still prefer working with the Mignon Specialita because of the detail it affords me. Should You Buy the Eureka Mignon Specialita? Please note that the latest version of the Crono is slightly different, and is made with brew in mind, not espresso. As is the case with any burr grinder, the Mignon Specialita will need cleaning around every months or two so it retains the grind quality and dose precision. This device is fairly easy to maintain. Before you begin cleaning, make sure it is unplugged. The Mignon is stylish. The model I reviewed had a polished case and modern design. It also comes in a variety of colors. Assembly takes no tools, but they include a hex key to adjust the portafilter fork if need be. Insert the hopper into the grinder. The portafilter fork itself pops into the front of the grinder and you are ready to go.
