Holyrood Distillery and Eden Mill tied in first place for the most amount of medals achieved with each of them taking home four medal positions. In the highly sought after taste competition, 12 Gold Medals were presented with Caorunn, Edinburgh Gin, Holyrood Distillery and Isle of Bute each collecting two golds each. The ultimate award, Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year, was presented to North Uist Distillery who have created an impressive range of gins. They also collected the award for Excellent in Branding. Housed in an eye-catching blue bottle, inspired by the colours of the local heather in bloom, Ben Lomond Gin has been created as a celebration of the unique flora, fauna and scenery of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

The Scottish Gin Awards have revealed gin brands which have successfully achieved medal status in 2022, following the awards dinner in Glasgow this month. The results are highly regarded as they are independently audited by a panel of experts and judged live in a rigorously assessed blind tasting event. The team behind Glasgow-based Ellis Gin have added the latest gin, the third they’ve released, to their premium gin range. Situated at the foot of Ben Rinnes, and located within the rolling landscape of Speyside, Glenrinnes Distillery launched earlier this year, with their Eight Lands Gin as one of their first offerings. This exciting spirit by creators Brothers Callum and Peter Sim, is named Hrafn (the Old Norse for Raven - pronounced Ra-vn) and has a punchy recipe that features traditional botanicals complemented by key ingredient mandarin fruit.Start up gin businesses including Fassfern Distillery and Rutland Square Gin also collected medals, with Rutland Square Gin, made under contract at Summerhall Distillery, collecting the Gold Medal for Best Flavoured Gin. This intriguing London Dry gin, has been made using the distillery's organic base spirit, botanicals including sorrel and cowberries grown on the estate, and of course, the water that flows from the slopes of Ben Rinnes. On the nose, you get juniper of course, but you also absolutely get a hefty waft of berries from those signature botanicals which, along with the orange, add a slightly sweeter note than you’d often get in a dry gin from citrus alone. Finally, you get a lingering pepperiness from the Szechuan which is actually more prominent than I would normally expect.
