About this deal

The trees must be at least ten years old before cutting to bleed the resin. It sets by a process called "aqua-polymerization", absorbing oxygen to set; placing in a humid environment allows it to absorb more oxygen from the evaporation of the water. Types of lacquer vary from place to place but they can be divided into unprocessed and processed categories. The lacquer can be applied by spray and due to its low viscosity it is not normally necessary to thin. If possible objects such as letterboxes should be removed from the door so that at least one coat of lacquer can be applied to the edges of the reverse side. a b c d Webb, Marianne (2000). Lacquer: Technology and conservation. Oxford: Butterworth-Heinemann. p.3. ISBN 978-0-7506-4412-9.

Compatibility: To prevent incompatibility please remove any old coatings with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. Priory Polishes, Silver / Brass Lacquer 100ml is suitable for most polished metals such as Silver, Brass, Dials etc. The lacquer is best applied in dry warm weather as dampness can sometimes result in ‘blushing’ of the surface which results in a milky finish.Has excellent adhesion on Chrome, Brass, Copper and Silver and provides a UV protection. The lacquer should be applied liberally with a flowing action using a soft brush.

Coats: 1 coat is normally sufficient. If used on exterior objects, two or three coats is recommended. Drying Time: 2- 3 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Re-coating Time: 2- 3 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Green, C. L. (1995). "5: Insect Dyes". Non-Wood Forest Products 4: Natural colourants and dyestuffs. In modern techniques, lacquer means a range of clear or pigmented coatings that dry by solvent evaporation to produce a hard, durable finish. The finish can be of any sheen level from ultra matte to high gloss, and it can be further polished as required. Lacquer finishes are usually harder and more brittle than oil-based or latex paints, and are typically used on hard and smooth surfaces. [ citation needed] Standeven, Harriet A. L. (2011). House Paints, 1900-1960: History and Use. Getty Publications. ISBN 9781606060674. If however, brush marks are left on the article when dry place the article on a hot radiator or in the oven at a low temperature, the brush marks will then disappear.

Lacquers using acrylic resin, a synthetic polymer, were developed in the 1950s. Acrylic resin is colourless, transparent thermoplastic, obtained by the polymerization of derivatives of acrylic acid. Acrylic is also used in enamel paints, which have the advantage of not needing to be buffed to obtain a shine. Enamels, however, are slow drying. The advantage of acrylic lacquer is its exceptionally fast drying time. The use of lacquers in automobile finishes was discontinued when tougher, more durable, weather- and chemical-resistant two-component polyurethane coatings were developed. The system usually consists of a primer, colour coat and clear topcoat, commonly known as clear coat finishes. Lacquer sheen is a measurement of the shine for a given lacquer. [8] Different manufacturers have their own names and standards for their sheen. [8] The most common names from least shiny to most shiny are: flat, matte, egg shell, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss (high). Water-based lacquer used for wood finishing is also not rated for exterior wear, unless otherwise specified.

Lightly tarnished surfaces should be cleaned with a good quality metal polish, which must then be removed with warm soapy water. Remove all traces of metal polish with warm soapy water and dry with a lint free cloth or paper towel. Metal lacquers provide a protective finish against dirt, debris, and other contaminants. The metals that respond best to metal lacquer finishes include:Painting with metal lacquer is not difficult. Start by preparing the metal surface. For metal, it is crucial whether you want to paint untreated metal or metal that has already been painted. In any case, the surface must be clean and free of grease to ensure good adhesion. Roughen the surface with sandpaper. For large metal surfaces, you can use a sander. Tape off all surfaces that are not to be painted and also protect the surrounding area with a suitable cover. Do not apply in damp weather conditions. Rustins Metal Lacquer is not suitable for use on some metals such as mild & stainless steel. Lacquers are usually solvent based, which means brushes and spraying equipment need cleaning with white spirit / thinners.
