About this deal

I wanted her to crush those old codgers... but... in the end... she was left an insecure girl who questioned everything Ben ever said to her and couldn't make any choices that freed her from where she was.

I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times while reading this. Elizabeth O’Roark might just be my new queen of banter. The dialogue was on top notch, the story flowed at the right pace throughout and I loved the extent to which she was able to develop not only the main characters, but a few of the supporting characters who will be featured in other books within the series. You know what’s fun about the men you date?” he replies. “The way they don’t exist in the first place.” The heroine had a lot of talk about the changes she was going to make and her goals to join the "boys club" and make a change. She fully believes she can only make a change by being a partner at this law firm that has NO interest in her attaining that place. In fact, they want her to service certain clients who want that from me. h (heroine) rating: 2 stars. Gemma. I struggled with her, especially how she held other people’s behavior against the H too much IMO.

You’ll eat an acai bowl at any hour of the day, and you’re the only person alive who prefers strawberries to donuts, which is why I’ve been buying them for staff meetings for the past year.” For example, I found very degrading that someone like Gemma would throw a fit and get drunk over something so clichéed as a miscommunication trope moment. Day like everyday, Ben = hot, smart, obsessed with you lawyer shoveling your mom's path because you were mad that no one else did it for her in her neighborhood.

This was such a fun read and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I loved the animosity between Gemma and Ben but he was secretly obsessed with her the whole time😏. The running joke, among pretty much everyone here, is that my vagina has teeth. The Castrator, they call me. In theory because I often represent women in custody disputes, and in truth because I won’t play the game—I don’t bake cupcakes and make cooing noises over pictures of everyone’s kids. If a man doesn’t bake cupcakes and make cooing noises, you know what they call him? Senior Partner." I liked it, but not as much as I liked the first two books. Heroine lowkey annoyed me most of the book, and was a bit of a hypocrite at times. I did end up liking her at the end though, but she made me angry because of how angry she was throughout the whole book 🤣 I also understood her trust issues which she had a lot 😅. I did love though that she was actually good at her job. I get so annoyed when the heroine is supposed to be a girl boss and smart but totally stumbles around when trying to do what she made us think she could do. I feel like it took way too long for her to know her true worth, but I liked her reasonings for the things she did. I also loved the hero (most of the time...) And I like how he was patient with her and didn't just break it off when her trust issues got in the way. He also made some really sweet gestures, things she didn't even know about, that made me like him more. We don’t really know about Ben’s feelings–at first–as the story is seen almost exclusively through Gemma’s eyes. But clearly learning more about Ben’s past and mind forces her to re-evaluate the way she sees him, and she realizes there were some misunderstanding. A charming book, I loved the unique plot, alongside the "heaviness" there were many light-hearted moments that made the plot flow amazingly!

His steps glide over the carpeted floor—slowly, purposefully—until he is directly in front of me. My pulse triples. I had no idea this was a slow burn when I started reading and boy, it took them almost 70% of the story to finally touch. This book made me work for it so hard, I was literally panting when it finally happened. Gemma Charles, sharper than the Louboutin she weae at her feet, is thoughtful, deadly, insanely smart, beautiful, a woman who radiates power (in short, I realized I fell for a badass admirable woman.) Gemma’s views of the world and of Ben are colored by her parents’ divorce when she was young. She was drawn to law because her lawyer father got himself great representation in his divorce case and made sure her mother got nothing, not even custody of her. Now Gemma’s mother works two minimum-wage jobs and refuses to take any financial assistance or big gifts from Gemma. d.) how he made time for her to do things she liked to do without her knowing that he was doing it just to spend time with her.

a lot of the story was centered around her trying to get her due in a male-dominated work force and helping other women do the same and ben was such a steadfast, ride or die for her. i am obsessed. Gemma’s fear of trust, though it makes perfect sense, makes the book a little melancholy and the HEA just slightly bittersweet. It’s very sweet and romantic but I think it won’t be easy for her to let herself trust completely; it will be a journey and it’s one that IMO isn’t completely done when the book ends.Ben laughs under his breath, and my head jerks toward him. “Don’t you have a single mother you can evict somewhere?”
