The newer EOS 800D lets you shoot at 6fps – while that’s a slight improvement, it’s fair to say that neither camera is going to be top of the list for sports and action photographers. Shooting at 5fps should be usable for the odd (relatively) fast-moving subject.

At this stage in its life cycle, by far and away the main reason to buy the EOS 750D is price. It’s still a good performer, and if you’re looking to buy your very first DSLR, it’s certainly one of the better value ones out there.The 750D was announced and released together with the 760D, a very similar model which adopts some of the ergonomic features of the more expensive 70D. Turning to the rear, the 750D’s optical viewfinder reveals 95% coverage of the frame as opposed to 100%. This is typical of a consumer-level DSLR, but it’s important to remember that when composing an image more of what you see through the viewfinder will be captured at the edges of the frame.

You might look around and find a myriad of options to choose from. There are Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and Canon options too. Even at the time of its launch, the 700D didn’t have amazingly impressive video credentials. Although it shoots at Full HD, that is restricted to 30fps, and of course, there’s no sign of the now relatively ubiquitous 4K. Still, if your main interest is in photography, rather than videography, you may not be altogether bothered. The 24.2-million-pixel sensor the 750D and 760D use bring both models into line with their closest rivals in the market, namely the Nikon D5500, which also features a 24.2-million-pixel chip. The move away from an 18-million-pixel sensor to a 24-million-pixel sensor sees a jump in the output image size too – up from 5184×3456 pixels on the 700D to 6000×4000 pixels on the 750D and 760D. Unlike the Nikon D5500 and some other recent high-resolution APS-C sensors however, the 750D and 760D continue to use an anti-aliasing filter and with this in place it has its work cut out to resolve the same levels of resolution. But the most aggravating problem with the Canon EOS 750D is battery life. Its 440 shot-capacity is acceptable, being both a match for the 700D (despite the extra power requirements of a higher sensor resolution) and the Pentax K-S2, but the 820-shot lifespan of the Nikon D5500 puts it very much in the shade.
