What I mean by that is I thought this was going to use more conventions typical to the romance genre and instead this ended up being more of a military space opera with strong romantic components.

There’s a little bit of the “and they were roomates” trope to kick of their reluctant partnership, which only strengthened my fondness for these two idiots. There are a million more things I feel like I could mention about this book to convey how much I loved it, but I also find it hard to put those into words, so I’ll just say I highly recommend this book if you enjoy queer science fiction with a generous side of romance. Excellent again, I was so absorbed in the story I had to ration myself so that I didn't finish it too quickly. Nevertheless, it is a mark of the author’s deftness that the book still felt driven by Tennal and Surit’s relationship, even where it was not dwelled upon. Winter's Orbit features] that compelling dynamic best summed up as 'the grumpy one' (Jainan) and 'the sunshine one' (Kiem).I was really excited to read this standalone sequel to Winters Orbit, and I'm glad to say it measured up! due to experimentation with ancient space relics, in orshan there are two kinds of neuromodified people: architects, who can influence your thoughts; and readers, who can read minds and also navigate chaotic space. This book follows different characters and provides all the information on the world to understand the details of the story. When Tennal - a rich socialite, inveterate flirt, and walking disaster - is caught using his telepathic powers for illegal activities, the military decides to bind his mind to someone whose coercive powers are strong enough to control him. They will know very well who, being born before those 20 years ago went through these experiments, and surely any child will be a possible suspect?

I think my brain's been scrambled recently because it just could not understand nor follow Everina Maxwell's brand of sci-fi. I truly liked how the novel’s science worked and was explained, as well as the tech and the mechanics of the sync bonds, but I wasn’t overjoyed about where the story then took these concepts. He keeps his feelings locked up deep inside, follows rules to a tee, and has a strong sense of justice. Their best chance arrives with a salvage-retrieval mission into chaotic space―to the very neuromodifcation lab that Surit's traitor mother destroyed twenty years ago. Maxwell’s writing has definitely improved since her debut, with an impressively creative plot to bolster this story!

and as they work together to find a way out of the dilemma, they find each other totally blown away by each other. Everina Maxwell has a wonderful way of weaving a story with the perfect balance of feelings/emotions and vivid detail for the reader to imagine each scene.
