In terms of features, there isn’t that much difference between the Cricut Explore Air 2 and the Cricut Explore 3. They both cut over 100 materials and are compatible with six tools. But the Cricut Explore 3 has the ability to cut Smart Materials and is a lot faster. Mini but mighty! Bring on the unusual objects and projects with Cricut EasyPress Mini. This added speed can really make all the difference when you’re working on a large or intricate project. Smart Materials and Matless Cutting Serious crafters are going to look at the Cricut Maker 3 and the Explore 3, which are the newest top-of-the-line and the middle-priced machines, respectively. Many of the accessories, tools, and materials are interchangeable; certainly, everything you can use with the Explore 3, you can use with the Maker 3 as well. Both of these machines are appropriate for beginners looking to expand their crafting abilities. They are both easy to use and offer plenty of room to grow. If this is your *first* Cricut, then I also recommend getting one of the newer machines. They have all of the same features as the older machines, but you also get the upgraded features of faster cutting and matless Smart Materials. This is my best guess. In the short term, these new machines will be sold alongside the original Cricut Maker and Cricut Explore machines because it takes a long time to get through inventory. But after a while, you’ll probably start to see the older machines being replaced with these new machines on store shelves and online.Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error Cricut Smart Materials were specifically designed for the Cricut Explore 3 and Cricut Maker 3, and the machines were also designed for the material as well (including the guides and sensors on the tray). I haven’t tested whether they work in the older machines yet, but I do know you can put the Smart Materials on a mat for cutting in the older machines. What is the Cricut Smart Materials Roll Holder? However, the Cricut Explore 3 would let you do a large-scale project like that fast in a single cut, using Smart Materials without a mat. Plus, the Cricut Explore 3 can cut twice as fast when using Smart Materials. This is a major time-saver if you do large projects frequently. When purchasing a Cricut Explore 3, you’ll find that most places will offer the machine on its own or as part of a ‘bundle’ deal where you can get the machine plus a selection of other related items and tools. These bundles can be a great value way to get started with a Cricut, especially if you are brand new to using the machines.Plus, the Cricut Explore 3's cutting speed is dramatically faster when using the Smart Materials, easily twice as fast. The Cricut Explore 3 allows you to print-then-cut on white or colored materials, whereas you can only print-then-cut on white materials with the Explore Air 2. Cricut Explore Air 2 vs. Cricut Explore 3: Wider projects? Other than that, Cricut Explore 3 is the basically same as a Cricut Explore Air 2, so everything you can do with your Cricut Explore Air 2 you can also do with this new machine. All of the same tools, mats, blades, and accessories work, so you don’t have to worry about also upgrading everything if you decide you want a Cricut Explore Air 2!
