About this deal

This book follows 3 siblings as they converge in their hometown (a small island off the coast of Washington State) to plan a Wedding Anniversary party for their parents. And, bitches, there is DRAAAAMMMMAAAA. This family has slowly drifted apart over the previous 10-ish years and we get a front row seat to the siblings trying to plan this important party while fighting like only siblings can. As the story unfolds we also see each sibling connect with people from their past and fall in love. What an unexpectedly emotional and poignant story from the rom com queen, Meghan Quinn. The Reunion is full of tenderness, emotional resonance, and soulful complexity. It's a story about the magic and challenges of family, about the shared experience of pain and love, about the depths of being a human, and I really enjoyed this story. The kids -- Thomas and his buddy Maxime, as well as Fanny, turn out to only be privvy to a slice of the information -- what they were involved with -- and extrapolate far too easily from this.

Liv pushes herself so hard to stay professional, restraining her feelings when she’s around Ransom but their attraction is palpable and undeniable. On the other hand, the writers think for reboot of the show with radical changes which probably affect Liv’s decisions to be part of the show! I’m all for women not being victims/doormats and if there is one thing that Polly does superbly is create great female characters. Whether they are good or bad you can’t help but like them. Lyla was glorious in all her abysmal glory and I was longing for her comeuppance.

I definitely recommend reading The Reunion and I will be looking out for Polly Phillips's next novel. Polly Phillips is really making a name for herself in the domestic thriller category of fiction thanks to The Reunion and My Best Friend’s Murder. It is great to see this Australian author produce another consuming friendship revenge tale! The characters are basically all unlikeable, which I normally struggle with. But I loved it in this book! I did start warming towards one of the characters near the end. The way the book ended has me feeling so conflicted. I loved the empowerment message but I also root for a happily ever after! Although I know I shouldn’t be expecting that in a thriller, the ending was definitely fitting for the genre. I admit that I am a fan of other peoples drama, so I lapped this up! Now I feel a little lost, like I need to find some more drama to fill my time! Nos encontramos también con múltiples referencias a la literatura, la música y al arte, esta última en menor medida. E incluso a la arquitectura (esa casa de la cascada de Frank Lloyd Wright es sencillamente espectacular 😍) Reconozco que me sentí un poco abrumada porque necesitaba indagar en aquellas obras que nombraba y yo desconocía. Lo que hacía que tuviera que parar la lectura en demasiadas ocasiones. Aún así, la he disfrutado muchísimo. Though this wasn’t my favorite novel, I still enjoyed the writing and the relationships for the most part and will be on the lookout for Meghan Quinn’s next novel.

Thoughts: This was a fun second chance Hollywood love story with fun celeb gossip articles sprinkled throughout that help to move the story along. I loved seeing behinds the curtain and all the little, intricate moving parts that work together to create both a hit tv show and the reunion that follows. The twists are almost comic in their absurdity, but that's certainly also part of the fun of this shamelessly over the top novel.
