About this deal

While I certainly enjoyed using a 35mm lens for wedding photography, I personally switched to using a wide-angle + 50mm prime instead. However, many other photographers, including our very own John Bosley swear by this lens and use it every day for their wedding photography needs. NIKON D700 + 35mm f/1.4 @ 35mm, ISO 400, 1/40, f/2.8 Lastly, don’t forget a solid macro lens to capture detail shots, such as when photographing wedding rings, bouquets, invitation cards and other details. While there are a few macro lens options available from Nikon, both classic and modern, as well as an 85mm tilt-shift lens option, my recommendation would be to go with the Nikon Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S Macro or the F-mount Nikon 105mm f/2.8G VR Micro lens. One thing I had issues with on the D3200 was low light. Not that great with low light when it comes to the noise it produced so when you do go to buy another lens I would def suggest something “fast” that you can open wide to pull in the most light without it compensating with a higher ISO.

When magnifying live view, I discovered one flaw with my copy of this lens. When I turned the focus ring to infinity, it focused a bit past infinity. So, don’t just rely thoughtlessly on the focusing distance scale. Optical FeaturesThis isn’t Tamron’s problem specifically, it’s a huge issue for all third-party lens makers, and it’s even a common frustration for native, name-brand lenses too. The above is nothing new – Nikon’s published MTF for the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G clearly shows that it is supposed to be sharper than the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G when shot at the maximum aperture. It’s significant at f/1.4 and f/2 for astrophotography, but the incredible sharpness makes up for it, in my opinion. If these lenses are a bit too much for your budget, Nikon also made the lighter and cheaper version of this lens, the Nikon 85mm f/1.8G, which is another superb lens that works well on Z-mount and F-mount cameras. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is a professional-grade prime lens that was released as part of Nikon’s first full-frame mirrorless system release in 2018. Although the Nikon Z6 together with the 50mm f/1.8 S were slightly delayed, the 24-70mm f/4 S and the 35mm f/1.8 S were the first two lenses that were readily available to be used on the Nikon Z7 when it was publicly released. Thus, the 35mm f/1.8 S can be considered Nikon’s first prime lens for the Z mount. Coma ( saggital coma flare) often causes weird smeared blobs to appear around bright points of light in the corners of fast or wide lenses at large apertures. In lenses that have it, coma goes away as stopped down. For travel, street, environmental portraits, and even more standard portraits, I am happy to use my 35mm. At times I’ll need a telephoto to get in closer so I switch to my 105mm or a longer lens.I’m not going to hold this against Tamron or this lens in particular, though, it’s just something I want to remind all DSLR shooters to consider whenever they’re getting new gear, or heavily abusing their gear every month.
