About this deal

I was very fortunate to receive a sample of this by a fellow user and it is everything I had hoped for and more. This is a nice scent, having spent some time with it I can see it to be a little more mature than I initially thought and it does have a bit of a retro vibe (even for the 90s) but I still think it has a classy, timeless appeal rather than smelling dated. Much different from the opulent, spicy Oriental, femm-marketed YSL Opium of 1977, which is closer to Aramis JHL (not to mention Youth Dew and Cinnabar) than it is to it's masculine version Opium Pour Homme.

After that it follows the path of the EDT but with a more spicy heavy aroma,the first twenty minutes are off putting but after that it shows a beauty and elegance of its own. I really thought I would love Opium Pour Homme, because Jacques Cavallier is one of my favourite perfumers, and he hasn't steered me wrong yet - L'eau Bleue D'Issey and M7 are masterpieces, and I even like his more pedestrian scents. I don't remember any other perfume having such an effect, but that's probably because this Opium is as cheap as the Afghan one. Somewhat tamed from what it used to be but still a strong performer which remains true to the original.

If you're a wannabe bad boy looking to stand out in 'da club', this will project like a beast and distinguish you from all the other Sauvage wearing sheeple.

In the evening i was still getting whiffs of Uomo, while Opium was gone even if i tried to sniff the shirt fabric. Warm, alluring, Opium Homme is a creation of the house of YSL, a response equivalent to the perfume launched for women, well known by the community. It opens with a very strong sweet blackcurrant note and also strong star anise that adds a pungent sweet liquorice note to the fragrance opening.With that bit out of the way, this fragrance is something that a sophisticated gentleman would have worn on a night out in the late 90s, or possibly even as a signature scent. Soapy and horrid, the breath of some Ruskie high off of a cheap cognac and fireballs, the candy, coated in baby powder.
