About this deal

Across the Atlantic, in Montreal, I was already listening to The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and many other dark bands with a bunch of friends. We were into punk, new wave or whatever else dark. We were gathering at some places, Station Ten to name one, to see underground bands gigs. We were dressed up in an uncanny way most people dislike. We were creative, making music, Super 8 movies, drawings, clothes, poetry, crazy makeups, and we drank too much. We did not want to follow our parent’s steps. We did not want a 9 to 5 boring job. We wanted something else. More recently, 2011 saw a momentous reunion tour with his former bandmates and Lol performing with The Cure again for the first time in over twenty years. Kalista seeks to change that. When her young and narcissistic uncle, Viego, becomes king she vows to temper his destructive instincts as his loyal confidant, advisor, and military general. But her plans are thwarted when an assassin’s poisoned blade strikes Viego’s wife, Isolde, afflicting her with a malady for which there is no cure.

When I was a teenager in the’90s, I loved talking to my aunt and uncle—my dad’s younger siblings who listened to cool music and wore cool clothes—about punk and new wave music they listened to in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Tolhurst is about the same age as my aunt and uncle, and reading his thoughts about the same genres of music has the same effect. I would love it if I could meet Tolhurst at a book signing. GOTH is an entertaining and engaging historical memoir of the genre of Goth music and culture, exploring creative giants like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Joy Division, and many more great bands that offered a place of refuge for the misfits of the 80s and ever since. Written by Lol Tolhurst, co-founder of The Cure, this book offers a fascinating deep dive into the movers and shakers of goth with stories and anecdotes from Tolhurst’s personal memories as well as the musicians, magicians, and artists, who made it all happen—the people, places, and events that made goth an inevitable and enduring movement. How you play 1v1.lol depends on the game mode. In most cases, you’ll be playing battle royale, so your objective is to eliminate opponents and become the last remaining survivor. Shoot and buildI've read a lot of histories and where this one stands out is in it's ability to evoke feelings. Specifically the feeling of the music and the time. Never fear, this book also contains all the names, dates, and facts. but those facts are presented almost more in poetry than prose. I kept nodding along saying "oh, yeah. That's it exactly" One of the things I especially liked was Mr. Tolhurst's inclusive attitude when loosely defining musical categories instead of trying to rigidly gate-keep only the purest of the Goth. well done. Major props for including some of my favourite bands like And Also the Trees and All About Eve. I especially loved hearing more of Julianne Regan's thoughts, as I’m in love with her writing and am in desperate need of a book written by her as well. As Isolde’s condition worsens, Viego descends into madness and grief, threatening to drag Camavor down with him. Kalista makes a desperate gambit to save the kingdom: she searches for the long lost Blessed Isles, rumored to hold the queen’s salvation, if only Kalista can find them.

He is best known as a founding member of the band that virtually invented alternative music, The Cure. Formed in 1976, The Cure is one of the most influential, successful and critically acclaimed bands of its generation. In the early nineties, Lol relocated to Southern California where he continues to write, record and tour with his own band, Levinhurst. Goth: a History is a fairly comprehensive and well rounded history of a music genre / cultural movement by someone who was there. Some of us changed their mind. It must have been too difficult. Others kept close to their Goth soul.

How to Play

I usually don't enjoy reading about listening music. Most writers fall so far from capturing the experience that it's uncomfortable. But this guy manages to capture the elusive in a way that's not only a completely accurate discription, but is also a joy to read.
