About this deal

I don’t know how these barrels ended up so different from each other or why Michter’s had chosen the month of January to bottle the really good ones. All I know is that they’re the ones to search for. Nose: A lighter, less oak-influenced nose compared to Barrel No. 23A0044. I still find scents of old leather and a chocolate note that I didn’t find in the other barrel. I also sense that this barrel contains a strong vanilla presence too. Caramel and ground cinnamon round things out, but sadly, very little fruit notes make themselves known. is a decent amount to spend on a bourbon, especially considering you’re starting to get into the territory of Old Ezra Barrel Proof and some Barton bottlings that hover around 100 proof, but if you’ve never tried it before, maybe you should because you may find this to be more in your wheelhouse than the other ones I’ve mentioned. Rating Breakdown Palate: That fruit becomes more dried and almost salted on the palate while bourbon vanilla and mild caramel sweetness mingle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Using low barrel entry proofs, Michter’s has had their whiskies “contract-distilled” by Brown Forman for a number of years before taking the reins.

Bomberger's Distillery, more recently Michter's Distillery, is a non-operating distillery facility that was, at the end of the twentieth century, believed to be the oldest remaining such building in the United States. The distillery closed in 1989. Although there are whiskey products currently on the market using the Bomberger's and Michter's brand names, they are more recently introduced products that have no direct connection to the old distillery. Moving into the finish, notes of marshmallow linger at first. This eventually transitions the notes of honey mustard. With heavy doses of generic spice, the finish retains traits that have pervaded throughout including an overall dry character.
