About this deal

The device or dongle you connected to has new features for USB-C that your PC (or phone) doesn’t support. To charge your iPhone or earlier-model iPad that has a Lightning port, connect it to your iPadusing the Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m). If you have a Lightning to USB cable, you can combine it with the Apple USB-C to USB Adapter, then connect the adapter to your iPad.

Note: This applies to all the error codes shown in Device Manager except error Code 28 (drivers for the device aren’t installed). NOTE 2: When I first plugged my power cord into the multiport adapter, it displayed some weird behavior where the Driver Install prompt went away and the "charging" icon would show briefly, then disappear. I restarted my laptop with everything still plugged in and then the Driver Install prompt stayed visible. You can connect youriPadto an HDMI display or TV with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Adapters that support HDMI 2.0can output video fromiPad ProandiPadAir (5th generation)at 4K resolution and 60Hz,while iPad Air (4th generation)and iPad mini (6th generation)can output video at 4K resolution and 30Hz.Note that you can’t charge devices connected to the USB ports, as they are there for syncing and data transfer only.)

Make sure your PC (or phone), the external display, and the cable all support DisplayPort or MHL alternate modes. Other ports to look for include Gigabit Ethernet for faster wired Internet access (without the flakiness of Wi-Fi), and an SD or microSD card reader for adding inexpensive portable storage to your system. Card readers come at different speeds: UHS-I at 104Mbps, and UHS-II at 312Mbps; although some are slower at 60Mbps.The USB device that you connected to reported a problem, or there’s a problem with the device driver. The Alternate Mode feature must be supported on the PC or phone's hardware and software, and the connected device or dongle. You might also need a specific USB-C cable. Chargers that don't have a standard USB Type-C connector might use a proprietary, nonstandard connector that your PC (or phone) doesn’t support. The UHS-I (104MBps) SD and microSD card readers aren’t the fastest but should suffice. Such memory cards are an affordable way of adding portable storage, and will also delight camera users. Your PC might not provide enough power to the USB device. Please connect your device to external power, or try using a different PC.
