About this deal

The CURLSMITH Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash is a vegan co-wash for wavy, curly, and coily hair and definitely lives up to the hype. By double gelling I’m referring to the method of adding gel on soaking wet hair, then dry with a t-shirt or microfiber towel, and then add gel again. With the CG Method you only need two products: conditioner & gel. If you want to use shampoo, Massey recommends only using a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser. I literally follow the curly girl method to a tee but I’m not sure if I’m using the right products. I really don’t want to have to go through so much trial and error with a whole bunch of products that will eventually cost a fortune and have no pay off 😩

Co-washes: Sometimes referred to as cleansing conditioners, these 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner formulas with higher ratios of conditioning ingredients are great for refreshing curls when your hair doesn't really feel dirty. They're hydrating and add great slip for detangling. Plus, they're easy when you're short on time. Don’t – wait for it – brush or comb your hair. This is might sound ludicrous to some, but it makes perfect sense. By using a brush or comb, you’re pulling out your hair’s natural curl pattern, which is exactly what we want to avoid. If you feel you can’t live without one, opt for a Denman brush.Others have become curly community gospel. Like the squish to condish method, for example. Curly girls swear by it, and wouldn’t go through a conditioning session without going in for a good squish while they’re at it. And all that for good reasons. Get Your Curls Into Formation First of all, thank you for your kind comments. Secondly, from your story I honestly don’t think there’s anything I can teach you that you’re not bossing already! 🙂 I’m so glad the stem cell transplant was successful and that you’re doing well!

I wrote an article about how to go about it if you have wavy hair (because that’s what I have), and you can find that here. To some, the thought of ditching shampoo entirely and taking on a gentler approach to wild manes that you were only ever able to tame with aggressive tactics, can be super scary and yet, the outcome will be better – and cheaper! – than any other approach you’ve tried over the course of your hair-styling years. Unfortunately, there isn’t really such a thing as a clarifying shampoo if you want to follow the CG method to the letter. Lorraine Massey’s argument is that if you are using 100% water-soluble products (no silicone), then you shouldn’t need to. As good as it can feel, don’t use your fingernails when your massaging in your chosen cleanser – apply gentle pressure with your fingertips instead. Diffuse on a cold setting. Tend to put the curls gently into the diffuser whilst it’s off, bring the diffuser to my scalp and then switch it on. To avoid frizz. You don't have to have tight cork-screws or bouncy ringlets to try CGM - it's actually recommended for all textured hair types including loose waves. Don’t use shampoo, specifically shampoos containing sulfates such as ammonium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate, or non-soluble silicones found in styling products and conditioners. While curly hair can be unpredictable, following CGM can help you achieve more consistent results. Who can use the Curly Girl Method? Curls look less frizzy and feel softer and defined and this is a great alternative to harsh shampoos. The Curly Girl Method is a way to improve and enhance your curls using only natural products that don’t contain sulphates, alcohol or silicone.

If you want to go full-on radical, you can also opt to wash your hair with baking powder or apple vinegar!I have no experience with starting ‘fresh’ but if your hair is very short, I don’t think there’s much else you can do but take care of it the way you are. I really admire you for even committing to the CGM after what you have been through so I would recommend you take it slow and just use the products which you feel are doing you good. I don’t know if you are using styling products such as gel or mousse, but perhaps mousse would help settle your hair a bit whilst growing. Opting for sustainability fits in perfectly with the Curly Girl Method and its natural approach to curl care and styling, so refrain from investing in imported hair gels and casts from the United States or elsewhere, and opt for those available at your local supermarket instead. Omg, so glad to hear your completely unbiased, totally real response. Glad to be of service, and please DM me your magical hair results in three months (or, realistically, your frantic questions in approximately 24 hours). I shall be waiting. While the guidelines in Massey’s book are mainly based on curly, wavy and afro hair textures, you can personalize the Curly Girl Method to fit the needs of your own head of hair.

Air-dry or t-shirt-dry by gently blotting your curls. If you must use a tool, go for the diffuser. Use CG approved hair gel and scrunch it into your hair from the bottom upwards toward the head, saving the top layer for last. Curly hair will get great definition if you fluff the bottom layer while bending forward; just try to avoid futzing around with the top part too much, this will only create frizz.

Some people will still need to use shampoo, but try finding one that is sulphate-free and as natural as possible," she suggested. Remove silicones from your routine Trust me when I say, you’ll be wishing you’d adopted this method for your curls a long, long time ago. Hair Types That Can Use The Curly Girl Method UK However, with naturally curly hair herself, Claire reveals that the book does still have relevance today. “The key CGM principles have some merit for many curl types. Promoting cleansing without sulphates is great advice – curls are naturally drier than straight hair and sulphates dry out the hair cuticle, creating a perfect environment for breakage,” she says.
