About this deal

Melafix comes with an anti-bacterial mixture that contains 1% Melaleuca while the anti-fungal Pimafix comes with a mixture that has 1% Pimenta Racemasa. When given as per a vet’s recommendations, it is also not known to adversely harm the biological filter, discolor the water, or alter the pH [3]. During the treatment, a mild foaming may occur, but it is not harmful to the aquarium environment [4]. You can use API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT to test parameters in an aquarium with reefs; however, for best results, it is recommended that you use API REEF MASTER TEST KIT. When treating for ammonia, with a 5 ml/10 gal. dose of Pond AQUA ESSENTIAL, you should expect a 20-40 ppm reduction in ammonia, based on the accuracy of your measurement of your pond volume. As we have already mentioned before, both these fish treatments have natural ingredients and work in a similar manner. However, Melafix is said to be more effective for bacterial infections, while Pimafix may help with bacterial and fungal infections alike.

pH is the measure of acidity in your water. A pH reading of 7.0 is neutral, a pH higher than 7.0 is alkaline, and a pH lower than this level is acidic. It is important to keep your aquarium at the appropriate pH level to ensure optimal water quality for your specific fish species, as different types of fish require different pH levels for their habitats. API® FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT will enable you to test the pH levels in your water as often as needed! Once a dose is provided to the aquarium, it is recommended to wait for 24 to 48 hours between doses. To see how you can calculate the dosages for both treatments, you can take a look at this article for Melafix as well as this post for Pimafix. Yes, this combination is in fact recommended if treating stubborn infections. Use each fish remedy at the recommended dose. There is no need to reduce the dose when using both of them.API POND STRESS COAT water conditioner removes chlorine and neutralizes chloramines and heavy metals. It also reduces stress in pond fish, and promotes the healing of wounds and regeneration of damaged tissue with Aloe Vera. During the treatment, your vet may recommend removing the carbon filters and turning off UV sterilizers and protein skimmers because UV light might hinder the effectiveness of the medication while the protein skimmers might remove the medicine particles through filtration, rendering the treatment useless [7]. Possible side effects Since fin rot is one of many bacterial diseases, API Melafix is excellent at treating, and healing bacterial infections that cause fin and tail rot, and body slime. Treats: 5ml treats 38 litres of water Directions: Shake well. Remove activated carbon if possible. Add 5ml per 38 litres of aquarium water.

The FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT measures pH, high range pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in your freshwater aquarium.

If you’ve got an undesirable mix of community fish, Consider setting up a quarantine tank for medicating. Are Melafix and Primafix safe for labyrinth fish like betta fish?

Most of the time, when your aquarium seems murky, the simplest solution is a water change. This ensures that any waste or debris causing the poor conditions is eliminated, so you can start with a clean slate. Partial water changes usually mean scooping out the top layer (top 25%) of aquarium water and replacing it with dechlorinated tap water (tip: API STRESS COAT™ water conditioner instantly removes chlorine and chloramines from tap water, making it safe for your fish). You should also siphon your gravel during cleaning to remove any visible particles of waste. Disease or wound treatment: Dose daily for 7 days. After 7 days, make a 25% water change. Continue treatment, if necessary. At this stage, the creature has developed a severe infection, and the fish will probably die. What Causes Dropsy? Carbonate hardness, also known as alkalinity, is the measure of carbonate and bicarbonate concentrations dissolved in water. These minerals are present in municipal, well, and bottled water. The level of carbonate hardness in tap and bottled water depends on the source of the water and the treatment processes it has undergone. Carbonate hardness helps stabilize pH in the aquarium. An aquarium with a low KH level will tend to be acidic. Aquariums with very low KH are subject to rapid pH shifts if not monitored carefully. Water with a high KH level usually has a high pH. Your aquarium must be clean and healthy for your fish. A dirty tank and unsuitable water conditions are probably the most common causes of stress and disease in aquarium fish.

How does Melafix work in aquarium fishes like bettas, goldfish, guppies, and gourami

This fish remedy is perfect for wounds, ulcers, mouth fungus, and fin & tail rot, but will not treat popeye. For popeye treatment, API MELAFIX™ fish remedy is recommended. API MELAFIX fish remedy heals bacterial infections such as fin & tail rot, eye cloud, popeye, body slime, and mouth fungus. As a general note, all API fish remedies can be used in conjunction with each other safely, as long as you are able to follow the directions for both during treatment. We would not recommend using more than two fish remedies at a time unless you are certain of the diagnosis of multiple ailments, so that you can tell which fish remedies are working or not working while troubleshooting a stubborn symptom or disease. When you add new fishes to an aquarium, give the prescribed dosage regularly for 3 days [1]. For open wounds and bacterial diseases in fishes, you may be advised to continue putting it to your aquarium daily, for 7 days (or longer if the condition persists) [1, 3]. Perform a 25% water change after 7 days [1].

Is the effectiveness of API CO2 BOOSTER™ product diminished by aeration and/or water circulation like CO2 gas? API CO2 BOOSTER product breaks down chemically to supply carbon to plants within 24 hours, thus the reason for re-dosing every 24 hours. The organic compound slowly breaks down over the 24 hour period, allowing the plants to absorb what they need. Meanwhile, API LEAF ZONE plant fertilizer is stable in the water until the nutrients are utilized by the plants, allowing for a weekly dose. When treating for nitrate, a 5 mL/10 gal. dose of Pond AQUA ESSENTIAL, you should expect a large reduction of nitrate, ~ 40-60 ppm reduction in nitrate, based on the accuracy of your measurement of your pond volume.

ALGAEFIX™

API FUNGUS CURE fish remedy works best when used to treat fungal infections, but can also be used to treat secondary bacterial infections. However, we recommend that you use API MELAFIX™ fish remedy or API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN™ fish remedy to treat bacterial infections most effectively. Products that are designed to remove things from your aquarium, such as filter media, will also remove dosed fish remedy from your tank. For best results from fish remedy, remove your filtration media as you dose. Melafix can be used in saltwater aquariums and freshwater aquariums without issue as an all-natural antibacterial treatment. It will not hurt your aquarium plants, although it does have a somewhat medicated unpleasant odor. It will also cause a foam on top of the water if you have a bubbler/airstone as it creates a thin layer over the surface of the water which air gets trapped inside. Interestingly, the recommended dosage for both Pimafix and Melafix is the same- adding 5ml of the liquid to every 10-gallon of water for at least seven consecutive days. Once this period is over, change 25% of the water and continue with the same dose for another week or two if required.
