More of a nifty BBQ accessory than a standalone pizza oven, this clever contraption sits on the grill of an existing gas or charcoal BBQ, letting you add authentic Italian pizzas to your garden party with ease. Unboxing it was a two-person job, though there were straps around the body of the oven to help us ease it out of the packaging. This is an impressive oven for its size and versatility and is ideal for packing up and taking camping or down to the beach. Everything contained in the Woody Kit can help with the rest, as we discovered when we took it for a spin for the second time. The large opening allows you to see what’s going on and reach in to turn a 12-inch pizza, but the oven is also roomy enough for a roasting tin full of veg and a spatchcock chicken.
Our reviewer Helen found this oven got up to heat very quickly, and within 15 to 20 minutes, she could start cooking.Just like some of the latest ovens, you simply have to run the oven at top temperatures for 30 minutes to burn off excess food. While Danish brand Witt may not have the name recognition of competitors like Ooni or Gozney, we can safely say it deserves to.
Setting up the Woody is mostly straightforward as the main body is assembled and has the legs attached, meaning you just need to flip them out to get the oven standing up. Ooni products are reliably sleek and sturdy in design, and the Volt 12 is no exception, with a matte shell, tempered glass door and well-engineered controls that are responsive to change.It's made by Danish brand Morsø, and is a sturdy, stylish piece of outdoor kit that feels built to last.
Heating the oven was easy, we just made a jenga-style tower of wood and lit it before leaving it for about half an hour to come to the desired temperature of 450°C. The Ooni Koda is a gas-fired pizza oven available in either 12-inch or 16-inch sizes, so there's an option for those with more space and one for a more portable option. Each oven is engineered to ensure excellent heat conduction and retention whilst Micro Mesh Technology ensures structural integrity to withstand high heat for indoor and outdoor cooking. However, in terms of build quality and professional looks, for us, the Ooni Fyra just steals the show. One of our biggest bugbears with the Ooni pizza ovens is that this essential tool must be purchased separately. We also checked the size of the pizza oven cavity to see if there was any extra space for addition pieces of cookware or food, like roasting tins and cast iron skillets. If you often host large gatherings, you may be thinking that you need a pizza oven with a large, generous capacity.
