About this deal

This qualification is officially known as the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018. What about Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)? There is no rush to take the final examination. You have twelve months from enrollment to take this.

The JIB and ECS recognise the following qualification for cardholders to show they are up to date on the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS7671: 2018): Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2018, which is offered by City and Guilds (2382-18), EAL (603/3298/0), Logic Certification (7671REI18) and BPEC (603/3430/7) . Regulation 3 requires that landlords have the electrical installation inspected and tested at intervals of no longer than every 5 years. Electrical safety standards (the 18th edition of the Wiring Regulations) must be met throughout the period of that tenancy. The Regulations state that a landlord must ensure that electrical safety standards are met, and that investigative or remedial work is carried out if the report requires this. The C3 classification code does not indicate remedial work is required, but only that improvement is recommended. Landlords don’t have to make the improvement, but it would improve the safety of the installation if they did. Supply written confirmation of the completion of the remedial works from the electrician to the tenant and the local authority within 28 days of completion of the works.

The 18th edition of the Wiring Regulations came into effect in 2019, so if a landlord already has a report for a property that was carried out after this date and has complied with all the other requirements of the Regulations, they won’t have to have another inspection for 5 years, provided the report does not state that the next inspection should take place sooner. You might be surprised to hear that the first document was published in 1882, and has since been updated on a regular basis to reflect new developments and best practice. The two hour test times gives you a full two minutes for every question, although you can spread this time out as you wish. With appropriate preparation, study, and following the tips in this post, you will be well prepared to pass the 18th Edition exam. If a local authority has reasonable grounds to believe that a landlord is in breach of one or more of the duties in the Regulations, they must serve a remedial notice on the landlord requiring remedial action.
