That way, you’ll all be more active, which makes up for the extra indulgences – and gives the whole family a great opportunity to spend time together, too. Easter is just around the corner and already the supermarket shelves have started to fill up with eggs, bunnies and all sorts of other delicious chocolate-y treats to mark the occasion.

Whether your favourite brand is Cadbury, Nestle or Rowntree, you will no doubt find that some favourites have changed completely or have in fact disappeared from shelves altogether. Now, there may be a wider selection of chocolate eggs to choose from, with some in fact now including alcohol, but do you miss some of the old eggs on offer? From adorable chocolate bunnies to colourful egg-shaped delights, we’re well into Easter treat season, and the selection is more varied (and tempting!) than ever before. The good thing about this, is you can use all of the chocolates in the box, use up the ones you don’t like if you are giving the cookie bars away, or use the ones you do like but if you fancy something a bit different! Unbelievably, the winner of the ‘Best for Kids’ category by Good Housekeeping was the Lindt Giant Gold Bunny. If you choose to buy this whopping Easter egg for your child, they will eventually consume an entire kilogram of chocolate: But undeniably the best bonus of owning a Clubcard is the huge members only discounts that the supermarket offers, which sees thousands of products reduced to a lower price, and Easter is no different.

You can see from the photos that they are a tasty bake, with all the different chocolates poking through! If you use a lot of chocolates that have a runny centre such as Quality Street caramels, I would recommend freezing them before baking, but if you are using a large combination such as I have, I generally don’t bother!

Even the smaller eggs we receive can create a big dent in our recommended daily calorie allowance. A Medium Rolo Easter Egg, which contains a milk chocolate egg and Rolo milk chocolates, amounts to: Easter has excited chocolate lovers for decades and no matter if you are young or old, many people still look forward to that chocolate egg in the morning. For these, I used my regular and favourite cookie bar recipe that you can find in my other ones, such as my oh-so-popular mini egg cookie bars for example. You just take out the chocolates featured in that recipe, such as the Mini Eggs, and replace it with chocolates! Cookie bars as I will say again and again are delightful. The cornflour IS IMPORTANT TO THE BAKE. It changes the texture, changes the bake, and improves them tenfold. This is why cornflour is in a lot of my cookie recipes, so please don’t leave it out!

Every year, certain eggs become must-have items thanks to the likes of social media trends and Good Housekeeping magazine, which ranks hundreds of eggs across various categories. How do these eggs compare to the mainstream choices? There’s no shame in enjoying chocolate with your family this Easter, but there is a difference between indulging in treats and taking an unhealthy approach to Easter excessiveness. This is something we need to be mindful of when eating and giving Easter treats, particularly when it comes children.
