And in 2021, Adidas launched a new-and-improved sustainable Stan Smith, with a complete overhaul, using its own PRIMEGREEN high-performance recycled materials while maintaining the iconic shoe design. So with a comfortable step, a quality build (granted it’s not made with real leather) and a highly affordable price point, this iconic sneaker punches well above its weight while graded on price to performance. The insoles are soft cushioned and display the Adidas and Disney logo along with the Primegreen lettering which likely means the insole is made with recycled materials as opposed to synthetic like it used to be. Outsoles I thought that was the end of the run. When they told me at the end of 2011 that they were going to take it off the market for two years and relaunch it I walked out of that meeting with my wife and my agent saying, “Well, it's been a good 40 years.” But as it turned out, Adidas had some great plans for relaunching it in 2014. To be honest, I really didn't believe that the team had a plan to relaunch it and so I thought that was the end of the shoe.

Well, you’ve gotta commend them—Adidas has been working towards making their shoes, particularly the Stan Smiths with sustainable materials. The shoe has status as the very first leather tennis shoe with the most popular version of the Adidas Stan Smith being the OG “Cloud White” and Green,” which debuted in 1965. Originally named “Adidas Robert Haillet” after the brand endorsed the French tennis pro, but in 1978 was renamed after Stan Smith, an American tennis player fresh off winning the U.S. Open in 1971. Stan Smith—circa 1971. Today, the Stan Smith is made with vegan alternatives to animal-derived ingredients or materials. And it’s also made with Primegreen, a series of high-performance recycled materials. And the upper is made with 50% recycled content with no virgin polyester.Furthermore, the leather his holding up just fine and the soles are still grippy and intact—nothing’s falling apart like with a pair of cheap shoes you’d get from the department store. It’s been a big year for Adidas collaborations: with filmmaker-slash-style-legend Jonah Hill, with Italian fashion powerhouse Prada, and of course, the brand’s ongoing partnership with Pharrell. Now we can add Kermit the Frog to the list. One of the Three Stripes’ most beloved sneakers—the forever-classic Stan Smith—gets remixed with plenty of Kermit-esque details. When you think “Green,” only so few come to mind. Other than Shrek and the Hulk, it’s likely you’ve though of Kermit the Frog, the Muppet known for minding his business and sipping tea. After starring on the small and big screen with the series’ colorful cast of stars, the icon is looking to make a name for himself via footwear. And adidas has given him that opportunity, providing the equally beloved Stan Smith for collaboration. Finally, the shoes are easy to clean, you can simply use one of those lysol wipes or wet towel, mix it with a dash of soap and you’ll be good to go. Alternatively, you can get these disposable shoe cleaner wipes for white leather, suede or mesh from Reshoevn8r or Simple Shine. They’re convenient to use when you’re in a pinch. The laces are soft cotton with a criss cross lacing system and plastic eyelets for added durability.This isn’t the first time Kermit has dressed the silhouette. In the past, he’s had two, but both pale in comparison to this upcoming colorway. Here, the base is kept its usual white, defaced little save for at the heel with the image of the frontman himself. This homage continues even further by way of the collar, whose plush cloth lining resembles the texture and tone of the green puppet. Heel tabs follow suit, though they arrive much lighter to contrast the “being green” text and trefoil that brand atop. While the tongue features logos of its own, its most standout feature is its pink, tongue-reminiscent coloring. The Stan Smith’s all faux leather upper is made with vegan alternatives to animal-derived ingredients with Primegreen, their own proprietary high-performance recycled materials. The leather is relatively soft and has a subtle, pebbled texture when you’re close up. It features a relaxed and flexible leather shoe tongue and a rounded toe box. Lining & Insoles adidas has never been shy about collaborating with names (big or small). And for its latest joint-effort, the German sportswear behemoth has tapped two iconic figures for its renowned adidas Stan Smith: Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog.

Once the most popular shoe company before Nike snagged that title, Adidas is highly competitive in shoes, workout gear, professional sports jerseys as well as all aspects of athletic equipment in the global market. With all of these small details, it’s not as minimal as a plain pair of Stan Smiths, but it pays homage to the equally as iconic Muppets character. Additional details to note are on the left shoe tongue, you’ll again find Kermit proudly displayed.The shoes have a basic rubber outsole, nothing special like margom or anything like that. The rubber is grippy on all surfaces from concrete to wood flooring.

It’s possible that adidas.com here in the US will launch on the same date.All in all, the design and form of the shoe has basically stayed the same since it was originally introduced, but a myriad of new versions and colorways have appeared throughout the years. Raf Simons' take on the shoe is one that stands out to me. He put an “R” on the shoe and to me it is the exact same shoe, but about three times more expensive. There has also been a lot of times when people have used it for fundraisers. Kate Moss got together with a lot of celebrities that did personal designs on the shoe, which were then auctioned off for charity. There's also a shoe in my trophy cabinet that takes the form of a clog from Holland, framed around the Stan Smith. To be honest, there's also been a couple of pairs that I haven't liked over the years, but, generally speaking, Adidas has done a good job with the collaborations. One of the most classic silhouettes in sneaker history, the adidas Stan Smith can be found in the closets of millions around the globe, from your average consumer to the most famous celebrities. While Disney has linked up with The Three Stripes in the past and brought multiple characters to life, the latest round of Disney x adidas Stan Smith colorways includes classic villains like Dr. Doom and even the loveable Muppet, Kermit The Frog.
