Blah blah blah, everyone is a caricature of themselves, it's obvious the fiance is cheating on Shelia from page 3, then after all this bumbling around with the characters saying nothing useful to the plot at all, the inspector arrives. Priestley was a Socialist, and both his experience and his political principles fed very much into his writing.
