About this deal

Some time ago I was contacted by Redgrass Games to ask if I’d be interested in trying out a prototype for their new “Everlasting” wet palette, which is in it’s final days on Kickstarter, and having now used the palette for a couple of weeks I would like to share my thoughts with you on the product.

I had a deeper appreciation for the work I was doing, for slowly building up of those layers, for being absolutely certain all my paints were the correct consistency before applying them, instead of just making do. The only downside is that the glass palette can’t be covered inside the palette along with the wet palette feature. That stiff rubber seal, while useful for keeping paint from drying out, will also make it incredibly difficult to remove the cover. Why you would want to do this defies logic, but if you’re traveling, it would be possible to do so even while you have wet paint in the palette. To ensure your RGG hydration membrane lasts as long as possible, it is important to clean it regularly and properly.

The rest of the painting process didn’t actually involve the wet palette all that much, but I kept using it for some of the smaller details on my intergalactic space crusaders. Personally, I rarely put enough paint on my palette for there to be enough left to still be wet next time. There is an elastic band to keep the palette together when travelling, there are 2x 50 sheets of hydration paper sheets and 2 sheets of hydration foam, and the “wavy”, to be used as a non-wet palette on the side.

Redgrassgames have been supporting the hobby community with the development of powerful tools for miniature painting since 2017. This is a surprisingly "low tech" way to do it, but it works, and it solves one of my biggest problems with past handle. The TPE rubber gasket around the top lid (red) seal in moisture when you close it securely to the bottom tray (gray).The photos and text in the guide work well together to guide you through the use of color, paint application, and other methods for painting miniatures. The larger size of the Everlasting Wet Palette V2 will give you more space than the RGG painter lite version, and less working palette space than, say, the Studio XL version.

So when I received the question if I wanted to test the new version of the palette, I was definitely curious! Sure, it’s separated and run a little, but that’s likely my fault due to how close to the edge of the palette I decided to place the paint – and the fact it had been sitting in water for over twelve hours. The Wavy is a nice idea, this accessory has five wells which you can easily use for glazes and washes meaning, you can separate your heavily diluted paints from the more opaque ones on the actual Everlasting Wet Palette. The instructions in RedgrassGames’ Everlasting Wet Palette: Miniature Painting Made Easy book are absolutely horrendous and nearly impossible to follow.So, not only is the Everlasting Wet Palette forcing me to be a better painter, it’s also thinning my paints for me. That aside, as before, there was little to note with the metallic paint, other than I had to frequently agitate it on the palette to stop it separating too much – but such is to be expected of dealing with metallic paints anyway. The Redgrass Everlasting Wet Palette seems great and I really like the lid with the band that keeps it shut.
