Hello, I am Rainer unit 6854 but you may call me . . . umm. . . I haven’t made that part up yet. Anyway, I love the book The Wild Robot Escapes! My favorite part is when the triangular white airship flies over Roz in the park and the RECOs zipped down on cables. I also liked the first chapter because it doesn’t include Roz until the end but it seems like it includes Roz the whole time. I also like how the delivery van zigs and zags around the street. I also like it when Roz gets disguised in weeds and mud you call her “the clump of grass” instead of Roz. Ahoy there me mateys! I fell in love with Roz in the first book, the wild robot. While I try to post no spoilers, if ye haven’t read the first book then ye might want to skip this post. If ye keep reading this log then ye have been forewarned and continue at yer own peril . . . The Wild Robot Escapes' is the middle-grade sequel to the 'The Wild Robot' both written and illustrated by New York Times bestselling children's author/illustrator Peter Brown. The Wild Robot Escapes…FINALLY!

These questions may be used during reading, or upon completion of the novel. While it is best to get students discussing what they’ve read, these questions can also be answered individually in a reader’s notebook. It is always such a joy to hear the different opinions that students have, even though they are reading the same novel! croak, “Where are you? I can’t see you!” And then another would reply, “I’m over here! Follow my voice!” When Roz first stomped across the island, the animal squawks and growls and chirps had sounded like nothing more than meaningless noises. But she no longer heard animal noises. Now she heard animal words. For Groups: Divide the chapters of the book amongst your group members. Each member of the group creates a storyboard for their assigned chapter. This can be done as a collaborative project, or separately for longer novels. One of the main themes of this book is friendship. Roz’s friendships with the animals were unexpected and often challenging. Choose a friendship between Roz and one of the animals and discuss it in your group. Why was it a strong friendship? What challenges did the friendship face and how were these challenges overcome?

She misses her animal friends and her adopted son (a little gosling) but she's realistic, her robot body is battered and dented. Choose a setting from the story and create a map of the setting using the small poster or worksheet layout. Use free form or other text boxes to include a key or label the different parts of the map. The farm parts were pretty fun. I loved reading about Roz and how she tried to make the farm profitable again, how she fixed the machines so they worked again. Thanks to her the farm came to life again. And not only that, she even tried making improvements. Helping out the animals around the farm. It was just so much fun, even with Roz missing her family and friends, the island, she still made a new home for her at this place. When Roz first arrived on the island, the animals were afraid of her and thought she was some kind of a monster. Why is this? What are some things that happened that changed their minds about Roz? Roz learned a lot from the animals around her. Have each group member choose an animal and describe the lessons that it taught Roz, using specific instances from the book. If applicable, include lessons that Roz taught that animal for an extra challenge.

Discussion Questions to Use in Pairs or Groups

Storyboard That’s The Wild Robot lesson plans include vocabulary, a character map, a plot diagram for students to map out important events of The Wild Robot plot, a movie poster, and exploring The Wild Robot themes. Students will delight in creating storyboards using our very own Roz character and the adorable animals that our artists have created. An additional activity could be to have students complete The Wild Robot chapter summaries for each chapter to dig deeper into the plot of the book. Students could also create a The Wild Robot study guide or a The Wild Robot novel study for a classmate! Over many weeks of working on the farm, Roz fixes up all of its machines, builds a strong relationship with the cows, and gets to know the children Jaya and Jad. After playing hide-and-seek with her, the children ask Roz to tell them stories. She tells them about a robot on a remote island, but does not reveal that every story is about herself. Eventually, the children open up to her about their own lives on the farm and reveal that their mother passed away. While Roz feels close to the children, she hopes that they will come to love her enough to help her escape.
