The always witty narrative emphasises the comedy caper element but the longer it went on I quickly realised that it was all too absurd for my palate.

On her first night back in town, Ely goes out to the infamous queer club Revel for a celebratory night of dancing. Both characters also yearn to be fully themselves despite both having muddy pasts, but that desire to be better reads so strongly on the page. We have a right to live normal lives where an exploration and an understanding of our gender isn’t any one person’s constant focus. The way Lee explored not only the personal toll it took, but the way it affects relationships was amazing. and become a well-off and famous photographer (despite having no formal training and no connections) who isolates himself from everyone.Thankfully, although the body count previously was high in the Middle Street Massacre the lives lost were those in ravel gangland hoods. It’s a romance but it’s not a rom com, I don’t know where I mistakenly got that from because it’s heavy but it’s got so much heart. I'll start off with the fact that I really liked the kind of slice of life vibes here coupled with the themes of identity in the sense of both being recovering addicts and also there are themes of religion and belonging.

As an often clueless and sometimes provincial American, I feel I may have missed some of the British humor and allusions in this novel by Truss.But when an interrupted break-in leaves the prime suspect dead the deductive powers and tenacity of young Twittern spring into action and are given a run for their money. The wounds of abandoning the Orthodox community that raised her, then shunned her because of her substance abuse, are still painful. The first in a new detective series featuring an unforgettable female detective partnership, Shot in the Dark is perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Gytha Lodge. A beautiful romance between two people who are sober and through their recovery, with a passion for the arts.

A ridiculous (though enjoyable) farce of a plot, teamed with an eclectic and amusing cast of characters, make 'A Shot in the Dark' a very different but satisfying read.but he also realizes that Twitten could help him win the “Policeman of the Year” award that he so very much desires. His transness and its significance to him did not imo play the major role in the story that I was expecting it to, hoping it would. This happens sometimes when a book is trying to be Not Like Other Romances (TM), something we sometimes see in trad pub romances that lean into lit fic so that the book will be taken more seriously. I have to admit, with the Keystone Cops scenarios, the vaudeville theater show and general language, the period described felt more like the 1920s/1930s than 1957.
