This round slow cooker features three heat settings (low, high, and keep-warm) and is oven-safe for browning. Furthermore, their programmable settings offer convenience, while their reduced heat generation is beneficial in warmer climates. What Makes an Energy-Efficient Slow Cooker? 1. Low Wattage Auto is the standard setting, with an average cooking time of 6-8 hours: it cooks the food on high until the correct temperature is reached, then keeps it warm until ready to serve (use low to extend the cooking time, or high to shorten it). The slow cooker is pretty easy to clean. What I would say is don’t leave it too long before you wash it out though as it will be harder work. But with a good scrub the pot and lid come up nice and clean, ready for the next use. Results In short... everything. Slow cooking food is healthy and tasty and it's not dangerous to leave your favourite foods simmering away.

They have always been well known for their quality kitchen products, but it has been quite a while since I have seen their products for sale. I’m glad to see that they are still around although it appears that they have been through the mill a little. Fortunately, they are now owned by Tefal so you can be sure that they have a quality company supporting them. I used it to make a chilli. The sear and stew function meant it was easy to heat some oil and brown my mince first on the hob (the removable cooking pot is compatible with most hobs, with the exception of induction). The Andrew James Slow Cooker in a stylish red design is both energy-efficient and practical. With a 3.5-litre capacity, it’s perfect for crafting delicious family meals. Made from stainless steel and ceramic materials, it’s durable and easy to clean, even in the dishwasher. Pre-browning meat and poultry prior to cooking seals in the moisture, intensifies the flavour, and provides more tender results.Slow cooking is also a great way to rustle up mouth-watering meat dishes, as unlike cooking on the hob at a high heat, the slow cooker’s low heat helps to keep meat soft and tender. No under or over cooking, or impairing the taste of ingredients. There’s no direct heat at the bottom, so generally it’s best to fill your slow cooker at least half full for even cooking

Extremely safe to use, the slow cooker can be left on while you’re at work or sleeping, so you’re never far from a freshly cooked meal - without needing to spend all evening in the kitchen. Portions and cups are not the same Rice cookers always measure rice in cups, as it's a more straightforward way to work out rice-to-water ratios (eg one cup of white rice usually needs one cup of water). But cups are often much bigger than portions – one cup is 150-180g of rice, and Bupa recommends that 75g of rice is one portion. Where rice-to-water ratios are absent in the instructions, we default to using a 1:1 ratio for basmati rice and 1:2 ratio for wholegrain rice, as these are the most widely accepted ratios for these rice types that we could find. All of the rice we cook is rinsed thoroughly before cooking. Use canned or fully pre-cooked kidney beans; dried beans should always be fully cooked before added to a recipe Your cooking options in a rice cooker can really be expanded if you're able to set it to cook for specific times, though. There are plenty of recipes online on how to cook rice pudding in a rice cooker, for example, but you'll need to be able to program it to cook for a set time. If you can't, your rice cooker won't be smart enough to know that there's milk, sugar and other extra ingredients in there, so it won't be likely to cook for the right amount of time.When selecting meat, look for the leanest cuts. Trim any visible fat from the meat because the slow cooking process will result in too much liquid in the form of fat.

Useful indicator lights for when the rice cooker is cooking or on the keep-warm setting are a plus, and the more straightforward it is to switch on, the better. When using a rice cooker, take care to avoid steam vents and avoid touching any part of the cooking pot that might be exposed.

We really like VonShef products so the VonShef Slow Cooker would be a good choice for us, however the Swan Slow Cooker also looks great. What might sway the outcome for us though is the reliability and years of manufacturing knowledge that comes with buying the Morphy Richards Slow Cooker. With the usual three standard settings – high, low and medium – and a capacity which produces around three or four surprisingly generous portions, this slow cooker does what it says on the proverbial tin. Having a slow cooker is a great addition to the kitchen. It’s a fantastic way to prepare healthy and hearty meals that can be ready straight after work. This is incredibly helpful with a busy job and family life to juggle. I have the Vonshef slow cooker in a 6.5l capacity. I get asked a lot whether I would recommend it, so here are my thoughts. Size and aesthetics We assess how simple each rice cooker is to set up for the first time, how helpful the instructions are for assembling it, and the advice it gives on capacities and water-to-rice ratios. Advice on cooking times is also a plus.
