It's a good story that gets really interesting in the second part as the Flash travels to Abra Kadabra's world and makes a startling discovery. Superman's post- Crisis on Infinite Earths origin had remained lore since John Byrne's seminal Man of Steel series in 1986, but by 2003 it was time for an update. Waid's fellow comics creators Neil Gaiman, Kurt Busiek, Dan Slott and Yanick Paquette contributed to his campaign, while artist Ethan Van Sciver began a similar campaign for Meyer which quickly surpassed Waid's in funding. But he realized early on that he and Wally have something in common: they both grew up as fans only to become professionals in the one field they love more than anything. Can the two Flashes co-exist long enough to stop Replicant, a villain with the combined powers of the Rogues Gallery?

As the title implies, it stars Impulse and not the Flash, and it's more aimed at younger readers, but it's still pretty fun especially if you're looking for a character who's a bit immature. Worth reading this book just for that, although the supporting issues in this collection are pure 90's bliss. His two-parter on Grant Morrison’s JLA is quite good though and a smooth development from what we see here. It allows for not only Wally's thoughts and emotions to come across, but allows the reader to step inside the Flash to see what it's like when Wally bends the laws of physics.The events of World's Finest would later set up the events of Batman vs Robin and " Lazarus Planet", also written by Waid.

It sees Wally take down his former girlfriend Frances aka Magenta with the help of his former teammates Nightwing and Starfire. Born in Hueytown, Alabama, Mark Waid has earned his living as a lounge singer, a magician, a disc jockey, an accountant and in many other ways, but none of them as eclectic--or fun--as scripting comic books. Waid would never equal Geoff Johns' later work on the Flash's rogues gallery, but this initial take on Abra Kadabra is the exception. If there is anything about The Flash that should be read or pick up, this is the one before Geoff Johns perfected Wally West in the future series (which is also a must read for any The Flash fans out there).A fantastic volume this one and I loved it, some remarkable stories that really makes you love Wally! While it's not yet complete, I know book 7 is coming out shortly, we still have 6 books that we can talk about. Waid’s run on The Flash represents some of his earlier work, and you can still see him working through the transition from lifelong fanboy and professional editor to spinner of tales, but the knack for imbuing his superheroes with relatable problems (struggling with family issues, confidence, etc. In November 2012, Waid and artist Leinil Francis Yu launched The Indestructible Hulk series for Marvel.
