There was a lot that happened in her life that led to where she was but she still came off as very one dimensional and uninteresting. Type: His Pretty Little Burden is part of the Kids of the District series, but can be read as a standalone. Also, this story has a LOT of stuff that’s not everyone’s jam, so you should know before going in: the heroine is pregnant, and the hero is NOT the father.

The last thing that made me a bit queasy was how many times it was mentioned that the h was 'little'. There’s a hole in the center of this story where there SHOULD be her having feelings about carrying a baby that resulted from rape. Nikki told us this was🥵Age-gap taboo, we have our 😇Sweet heroine Fawn and our 😈Mafia Don Clay Butcher, there is unlimited 🔥Steam, 😇 Praise kink, 😈You are my property vibes and finally romance. I don't know how Nicci Harris does it, but she just sucks me into the story and makes me connect with the characters on a deeper level.

Not only is she a burden–barely eighteen, naive, the epitome of a little deer in headlights-But she is too damn pretty. That part icked me like hell, he's married throughout the entire book but doesn't have a sexual relationship with his wife. So the intimacy and their relationship is a little uncomfortable for me with the age gap and the alpha male BS that we get with our male MC. I'm so fucking tired of the scums of this earth getting away with the horrible shit they do without any repercussions at all.

To sum up this book in one line, I’d say it is a 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕. But it doesn’t feel believable that she’s not at least THINK about her options – even if she’d conclude that she’s choosing to have the baby.

It could unravel everything that I am, strip me back until I'm nothing but bare bones and a swollen heart. I haven't read this author before, so therefore I haven't read the rest of the series, and i was so confused for a good while, which took me away from connecting with the characters. I try to find my estranged father, a man rumoured to be in the Mafia, hopeful he will use his influence to discover what really happened the night someone took my innocence. The realistic glimpse into the darkness of the foster system seems universal, the book is set in Australia but could just as easily be in the US, UK, anywhere in the world. This group is a safe environment, where readers can find awesome new books to obsess over while gaining deeper insight into the creation of their favorite stories.But with everything that happened and just how disconnected I was from the characters, I'm not sure if I'll read the conclusion. Usually, I'm not a stickler for these things but with the fucking trauma dump that this novel turned into, I found myself becoming more and more done with grown men acting like they can't ask a woman if she's okay with what's going on. He’s not, and little does Fern know that Clay is pretending to be generous and have her stay with him while he “looks for” her dad, but he’s REALLY planning to use her and her unborn son to lure out her dad to kill him. What follows is the unexpected and inexplicably beautiful relationship that develops between the Mayor and his little deer.
