About this deal

This isn’t the first time LEGO has made a Slave I in microfighter scale – there was one released in 2012! However, that was a promotional set exclusive to Star Wars Celebration, and while the older model had a less stubby design, I think the 2023 model is more detailed overall. This is a guest review from our resident LEGO Star Wars correspondent, vaderfan_2187, who is covering the new 2023 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets.

I hope that they'll recolor the design for a Jango Fett's Slave I next year. They've done something like that for Y-wing and X-wing Microfighters.LEGO Slave I (Star Wars Celebration VI Exclusive) LEGO Slave I (Star Wars Celebration VI Exclusive) Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter is also slightly unique among the wider range of Microfighters for having its minifigure actually look like it’s flying the thing, rather than sitting on top of a kids’ ride, but that’s really more a consequence of the source material than anything else. It absolutely works for this set, though. — LEGO Star Wars 75344 Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter characters — The LEGO Group has been recreating starships, vehicles, locations and characters from the Star Wars universe since 1999, and there is a huge variety of sets that make super gifts for fans of all ages. LEGO Magnet Set with Royal Guard, Princess Leia, and Boba Fett (852552) LEGO Magnet Set with Royal Guard, Princess Leia, and Boba Fett (852552) Fett fits nicely in his ship, though, and that’s an advantage he has over most other Microfighter sets; usually, the minifigure is awkwardly straddling the top of the build like some forlorn astromech. The ship has the two expected laser cannons, too, though if you’re expecting them to really go pew pew, you might be disappointed—they just plop onto the floor when I launch them. (Though, if I’m honest, I prefer this to constantly losing them under the couch.)

The deep greens and reds really bring the ship to life, and the unforgettable shape of this fan-favorite vessel still cuts a foreboding silhouette for would-be bounties even in micro-size. Boba needs olive green armor and helmet, the print scheme could stay identical to the current parts. Sand green helmet is accurate for TESB Bobas, ROTJ had the base color altered slightly which Lucasfilm stayed close to. The shade Boba used to repaint his armor with is darker than the shade he had before the Sarlacc pit but both of them are closer to olive green than any other shade of green. There’s only one minifigure included, Boba Fett himself. This minifigure is unchanged from its previous appearances in terms of the prints, the only difference being his rangefinder is now missing.Surprisingly well-executed Microfighter. From the reveals, I was ready to leave this set off my to-buy list for the start of 2023, but now I think it will be nice to get another one. It will go nicely with the Slave I from 2021 that I got that Christmas.

This minifigure thus resembles earlier examples very closely, but actually comprises new pieces. The belt, braided Wookiee hair and metallic silver battle damage have each been adjusted, while the legs include slightly more detail. Certain vehicles are particularly suitable for Microfighters, transitioning easily and retaining their most recognisable features. I imagine the Slave I has proven rather difficult, given how long this iconic vessel has taken to join the series. Fortunately, 75344 Boba Fett's Starship Microfighter was undoubtedly worth waiting for! Then, the rumors began that Boba Fett would be joining the Microfighter series. And on January 1, 2023, the new set officially dropped.

Overall

Boba Fett returned to screens with a vengeance in The Mandalorian, requisitioning his battered armour. This minifigure originally appeared in 75312 Boba Fett's Starship and features stunning detail, although the sand green helmet has monopolised discussion. Dark green would arguably be more accurate, but has presumably been avoided because the colour would appear too dark and LEGO would be unable to highlight darker sections of the cheeks.

What surprised me was the fact that you can also put him into the Slave I in its horizontal landed mode! This feature is present in larger versions of the Slave I, but I didn’t expect them to recreate it here. From this angle you can see some of the details – I like the jumbled use of light grey, sand green, and dark green, which gives the model a weathered look even at this small scale. Is lego intentionally decreasing the value of UCS figures? First the UCS y-wing gold leader pilot and astromech in yavin 4 base and now UCS slave 1 fett in a cheap set?"This model is constructed similarly to the Marvel mechs, incorporating the same angled limb elements and measuring 13cm in height, which is only marginally taller than the Marvel sets. Boba Fett's vehicle appears substantially stronger though, with broader legs and impressive shoulder armour. Only 76242 Thanos Mech Armour is really comparable. Otherwise, the details and prints look good, and it’s nice to get such a detailed main character figure in an affordable set. Speaking of hotness, study after study shows that women are most attracted to dad bods. This is undoubtedly because it connotes financial and emotional stability. I look in the mirror and fight the good fight everyday. Well... to play devil's argument, people who spent a lot to get them. Let's face it, Lego has based a large amount of its goodwill (i.e., inherent value of a longstanding company) in the idea that it's products are 'worth it' to adults in part because they appreciate in value. If Lego decides to undercut all the collectors who've invested, they will destroy that part of their goodwill. They will 'only' be a toy company for children.
