When she met the man who was to be her husband it was there that they met, and it was where she and George went every day of their lives together. But George is gone now, and her morning swims at the Lido are even more precious to Rosemary, it’s where she can still picture him, remember their time together. Relive the memories. It’s where they had their first kiss. It’s where they fell in love. But there are other memories of this place, as well. It is the place where the neighbors gathered after a bomb fell on the park just clear of the Lido, and nearby Dulwich Road that ran along one side of the park. Eighty-six years of memories and all the best ones were from here. The famous trumpeter, Harry Mortimer, described Hyde Park's bandstand as "uncomfortable, unsanitary, but much loved". He did a week's engagement on the bandstand during World War II in 1944 with the Fodens Motor Works Band. The closest mainline station is London Paddington - located approximately 500m north of West Carriage Drive. The station is served by services from GWR, Heathrow Express and TfL's Elizabeth Line. The sculpture is inspired by the Egyptian goddess of nature. It was designed by British sculptor Simon Gudgeon and was installed in the park in 2009. We´ve got some fantastic facilities on offer including a 50m outdoor swimming pool, all the latest gym & fitness equipment, an extensive programme of group exercise classes such as yoga, pilates and HIIT, plus a café!We thought it was heart-warming without being gushingly sentimental and we cared about the characters and the situation they were trying to remedy. The book is about loneliness and the burgeoning friendship between two women. We felt as if we were in their lives and with them in their struggle to prevent the closure of their wonderful community asset.

The Freeman Family drinking fountain is a public drinking fountain located near Cumberland Gate. Unveiled in 2009, it was the first drinking fountain installed in Hyde Park in 30 years.Outside the park, places are beginning to change. Once upon a time, she knew the names of everyone, every shop, and every shop owner. Where the grocery once stood, there is now a bar. Even the library where she used to work is now closed. When your eyes are glassy and your nose is dripping and your heart is full - you know you just finished a good book. Rosemary is 86 and is a widow. She has been swimming at the Lido almost eighty years. It is filled with memories. And then the dreadful news comes that the Lido will be shut down. The property under off from a company that plans to demolish it and build luxury apartments on the land. She puts out some fliers trying to stop the council selling and the pool being demolished.

Another beautiful observation simply relates: “She is finding it hard not to cry at the feeling of being touched on her bare skin”. The serviceable prose can be effective at times, particularly in dialogue. “Never be sorry for feeling,” Rosemary advises Kate. “Never be sorry for falling in love. I was never sorry. Not for a single day.” Designed by Adrian Jones, an army vet, the sculpture contains bronze which came from guns captured during World War 1. The base was designed by Sir John Burnet. This is a lovely, heart-warming story about love and friendship, standing up for what's right in the face of greed and Progress with a capital 'P'. Wonderful characters make this story come to life. Highly recommend! King Henry VIII was a passionate sportsman. Not content with hunting at Greenwich Park and Richmond Park, in 1536 he also acquired the land that now forms Hyde Park from the monks of Westminster Abbey, adding it to his collection of hunting grounds.

Sometimes, it;s nice to have a story which warms your heart, makes you smile and leaves you with a glow inside. A female friendship and how young and old can gain in their own way through joining forces over a joint concern. The realisation that the lido is symbolic of so much in their lives. But when a local developer attempts to buy the lido for a posh new apartment complex, Rosemary’s fond memories and sense of community are under threat. The memorial was constructed in 1983 and paid for by the Board of British Jews. The design was by Richard Seifert and Derek Lovejoy and Partners. The marble Boy and Dolphin fountain was made in 1862 by Alexander Munro, a friend of the Alice in Wonderland author, Lewis Carroll. The fountain is located in Hyde Park's Rose Garden.I struggled with this book to start with but I am so glad I did not give up. I loved the characters of Rosemary and Kate and the friendship that developed between them, fighting for something that was so important to them. For me the book was about the characters. This is truly dreadful. How did it get published. As a story it has some charm and I wanted to read it as its set where I live. But the prose! Its childlike at best and utterly senseless at worst....
