I had the same diagnostic done and was told it was the nox sensor my car is a 118i first thing on a morning it is very sluggish and makes a loud noise like a bad Diesel engine then after 30 seconds it jerks the warning light comes on then it runs fine. My parts and labor warranty ends on the ��13th of December so it will be tricky to get costs back and also the car could give out during my holiday which will f**k it up tremendously but then at least I have irrefutable proof the car was faulty from the start and a higher chance of getting a refund under the Consumers Rights Act.

Either a) exhaust camshaft sensor has failed and needs replacing (unlikely), b), your timing chain tensioner needs replacing (very likely), or c), your timing chain itself has stretched (possible). Also have a poke around and check the air intake system for splits/leaks, as this will give a rough idle as well.
Should my one question as to why my engine light comes on not simply be answered by one diagnostic with the appropiate software? Even after longer burning, cleaning off the soot, it turned out that the insulation of the wires was not damaged at all! her problem is now the previous specialists told her about the fault codes she thinks comthing is going to go wrong but as said seems to be driving fine at present.
