About this deal

I was totally holding this poor 17 year old girl to the standards of my 34 year old mature *snort* self.

I have had a lot going on at home and at work...plus I think I have an ear infection that I have been assuming was a headache or something else for a while now. I'm pretty blinded by my love of this book but I'm going to warn people that it's not exactly without problems. As in, this book is problematic. The way that the MCs interact with each other in the middle of the book is wildly hot but I can see how some people might not like the elements of danger and/or violence. The violence is not at all domestic but there were some situations that might leave others a little unsettled. It’s just sad that because of that, many readers give this book 5 stars, ignoring all the rest. By the time I got to the sex scenes, I hated them both so much that I almost felt like skipping their intimacy moment. Punk 57 Book Review: There’s a Cool Plot TwistDouglas studied in Public Administration at the University of Northern Iowa and she attained her Bachelor’s Degree from there, as well. Douglas attended Loyola University, too, where she earned he Master of Science in Education. When the book starts and they’re in a party with a band, marijuana, alcohol, cool guys, I thought, wow, cool! And then, the next day, THEY ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL! NOOOOOOOOO!

Masen invites Ryen out for the evening, hinting at a potentially illegal adventure. Despite her reservations, Ryen agrees, intrigued by the idea of spending more time with him and discovering more about his mysterious life. Are they laughing at you? Talking about you? Are they sneering at you like their perfect world would be so much better if you weren’t there, messing up their view?

Punk 57 Book Review – What I Liked about Punk 57: *Maybe Some Spoilers*

We romance readers can be very hard on our heroines. We often see ourselves in those roles and compare their decisions to the decisions we would've made instead. We tend to judge them more harshly than we do the heroes, because we hold them to the same expectation we hold ourselves." It couldn’t be them. But those masks. They were the only ones who wore those masks. Why would they come here? After three years, why would they come here? Masen grapples with his feelings for Ryen and the reasons he’s at the school. He’s torn between his mission and his growing attraction to her. He’s also haunted by memories of his sister, Annie, and the life he left behind. This does not happen in PUNK 57. Ryen is attracted to this mean behavior, despite herself, and the two of them have several sex scenes that have this really uncomfortable element that was also present in CORRUPT that is neither healthy nor entirely consensual (at least, that's how it felt to me). And it wasn't the fact that it wasn't 100% consensual at times that bothered me so much as the fact that Ryen seemed to be embracing this behavior as natural and something she needed. Example: at one point Misha/Masen breaks into her house while she's sleeping and catches her in bed naked. He assumes, naturally, that any woman who is naked must be entertaining male company, and makes an effort of looking around for that Other Man. When he realizes that she was actually masturbating, he asks her if she was thinking of him. Me, I'd be on the phone with the cops well before that point, but she lets him watch. Ew. He's also constantly getting physical with her and making her feel bad about herself, whether it's berating her for being fake or criticizing her clothes for being too sexy - because how dare she bring male attention upon herself. Like it's her fault for them looking or some BS. In keeping with this "me man, woman mine" caveman attitude, the sex is always big man alpha sex, of the cervix-slamming variety (you know the kind I mean) and I know some people enjoy this, and that's fine, but that isn't my cup of tea at all. I rolled my eyes a lot. Especially when they try anal - without lube - and all she feels is a tiny burn. Ha! Woman must have Superman's butthole if he can go in dry and not cause her any pain, that's all I'm going to say.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever… But I’ve forced books before and they flop every time. It’s not worth it. Readers always know when an author wasn’t connecting. He jerks his chin at me, a smile playing on his lips. “Spread your legs.” Huh? “Come on,” he teases, shaking the salt. “I want to see what you taste like.” I snort, widening my eyes. “Absolutely not.” “Pleeeease?” “No!” I burst out, nearly laughing at his sad face. No way in hell! I am not doing that. Not a chance. Everything is bad. The writing is bad. The scenarios are bad. Misha starts living under a different name in a different city, being basically homeless, and he still gets to go to school every day, and the thing that’s in his mind is this popular cheerleader bully. How did he enroll in school with a different name? Where does he get money? How could he live in this abandoned theme park? Why is there power in this abandoned theme park? This whole book feels like a fantasy. It ignores worldbuilding, character building, relationship building, etc. Punk 57 Book Review: How forced the relationship is, no chemistry at all; We come to learn that Ryen hadn’t been quite forthright and honest about her position at school. The person that was writing to Misha seemed so genuine about the struggles and troubles that she faced each day.So, to ask Ryen to act as a 17 year old according to how I would act in her position is pretty silly of me. I stop and think as I pull my bottom lip in between my teeth, grazing the piercing there. “A little here,” I mumble, the lyrics turning in my head, “to cover the bags under your eyes, and some pink on your cheeks to spread the lies.” With Rival, Madoc was so much fun, and I probably had the most fun writing him more than anyone. He is a fantastic character, and I loved his humor. But I also constantly wondered whether I should take this chance or that, knowing how people were going to critique it. With BULLY, I was ignorant, and with RIVAL, I was aware, so I was nervous. It was a different experience.
