About this deal

In short, this game is about colonising planets and moving them into your galaxy before your rivals do the same. Being able to move planets is something that comes from a type II civilisation, which thematically makes sense. Our goal is to be the first to progress into the mythical type IV civilisation by being the first to hit 21 points. This does not make thematical sense as reaching this point consists of being able to harness the energy of the entire universe. This is a great way to get your children into coding and is a perfect gateway into other area control and action queue games. And as I say, you put meeples into mech suits. That in truth, really should be enough!

There are not many components, but what is there, is of high quality. OK, the player boards and the wooden pieces could be a bit larger. They’re a bit clumsy to handle, especially for us that have larger hands. But it’s not a major issue, you just have to be a bit more careful when moving them around. Tiny Epic Galaxies, designed by Scott Almes, is driven by an exciting dice-rolling mechanic that rewards thoughtful programming of the results. Players control a home planet and a series of space ships within their own personal galaxy. As players upgrade their galaxies they gain access to more ships and more dice. However, you are not the only empire looking to expand. Opportunistic rivals from other galaxies are growing just as fast as you and even the universe is not big enough for all your ambitions to come true.Each turn begins with rolling your dice. You start with 4, but this can increase to 7, as you upgrade your empire. You can re-roll any number of dice for free once. Each subsequent re-roll costs 1 energy.

For example, to upgrade from the second to the third space, empire level 3, you need to spend either 3 energy or 3 culture, not a combination.

Marketing strategies aside, Tiny Epic Galaxies could very well fit into a big box, and be jammed full of random components and big ol’ spaceships. The thing is, it’s not necessary. Tiny Epic delivers on its ability to bring forth a huge game gaming experience within the confines of a small box. Final Verdict Tiny Epics are what they say on the tin: tiny, and epic. One of the first ones we ever tried has held a strong place in our collection and is arguably our favourite one too! Tiny Epic Western is possibly the most complex of the series, what with its many mechanisms, but still easy to get your head around! It's a worker placement game for 1-4 players with enough of everything to make it so much more!
